Can anyone think of any voluntary work that there might be in social work? I want to become a social worker and have started the studypart of it, just need to get a bit of experience under my belt...I'm especially interested in working with children. I know it's a long shot but do you think children's homes might take on volunteers?

Homestart? they are always looking for volunteers.

You befriend families requiring emotional/practical support.

It got me my uni place for nursing.

Also you could try Age Concern etc.

police checks and vulnerable childeen make this a bit difficult i shoudl think. nch would know. does your college organise work placements? we used to have students at work (young people charity) but it too resource heavy our end. college should be able to help you anyway.

try a local social care charity

you will have to have a CRB check for any voluntary role with children or vulnerable adults
