Oh dear

We had the same non interest from dh's bunch. In fact for dd1's first birthday, my mil kept us hanging about waiting for her, causing us to get to the party venue late, because she thought it more important to go and visit a friend she hadn't seen in years instead, and couldn't be arsed to call and say she would follow on, or get the address of the do.

It's horrible isn't it.

Sorry, forgot to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Just a card - that's terrible. At least the aunt bothered with a present - perhaps you could exchange it, or get her to exchange it?

edam · 19/08/2004 20:00

Happy birthday to Alex! And no, you aren't. Your dh/dp is just unfortunate in his choice of parents; luckily Alex has much better taste .

oh I'm with you on this one alexsmum.
DD and,DS paternal gp's have only ever sent cheques -'well you know dd,ds better than we do' too bloody right... they NEVER make any effort to see them/ or get to know them
Sorry rant over.
Yes I think it is awful and some gp's don't deserve the title (btw its grandparents day on the 25th September- maybe you should go OTT with cards/photo's pressies, and play on their conscience a tad?!!
Happy birthday alex!

Do you know what my kids have had for their birthdays from their paternal grandfather? dd is 7 and ds is 4.

Nothing. Not even a card. Never.

Do you know what I had from my parents when I had dd?

A card. They did give me some money for her , but for me, not a single flower, a card.

gothicmama · 19/08/2004 20:39

paternal grandad calls dd by the wrong name ( she is his only grandchild) when he decides to contact us

alexsmum · 19/08/2004 21:37

Got to say they are normally very, very good. They are quite hands on especially with ds1 and I am really surpried that no present has materialised.I thought there would be a cheque in the card and I was really surprised that there wasn't. They left a message on the answer phone while we were out but dh won't phone them back.(they live abroad and he says its too expensive to call)
Aunt is another matter.Ds2 was christened about the time that mil and fil moved abroad and we made her and partner godparents as we thought it wwould be a way of ensuring that they maintained a relationship with the boys. She has seen him 3 times in his life. When he was a couple of weeks old I sent her a letter 'from him' saying I can do this and that, and sent photo's and she never even acknowledged that she had recieved them.
She never phones or anything. She has always been like this so I don't know why I'm surprised.Still at least she remembered, and did come up with a present(and one for ds1).it was just crap.I sound horrible don't I??
I feel awful for all you people who have such really bad grandparent s for your kids.I don't understand the attitude.I really don't.
