Depending on where you live who can refer you can be different. If u contact your food bank they should be able to tell you who you can get a referral from, i think if do get referred you can get enough food for 3 days. They do have a 'fuelbank' aswell so once referred to them for food can discuss gas and electric and they may be able to help with that aswell. Hope you manage to get some help. Go onto food bank website and find your nearest one. Hope you can get some help.

If you want me to search for you pm me your area and I will try to find out. Or say it here if you don't mind sharing

I can only speak for food banks and in my area. I contacted citizens advice and they went through some questions with me then they said I was eligible. I had to go to their office to get a referral form.

They told me the nearest food bank and days and times they were open. Went there, spoke to someone and they asked what I needed. They were very helpful and offered financial help as well.

I hope this helps x

I volunteer at a FB. We are in a very affluent area so would never turn anybody away. What is your area like? If not affluent you will need to go through CAB or your GP, or contact Trussel Trust. Never be afraid to go to your local food bank, I have massive respect for the people who have the courage to visit us for their children. Good luck.

I volunteer at a food bank. We get referrals from gps very frequently, as well as the local housing associations, Police, some church organisations etc. Your best bet is to see your gp and they should be able to do a referral, hopefully? In our area they give you a slip that you then have to take to the food bank. Good luck OP.

Do you need birth certificates to register with a GP? When I worked in one, you just needed a bill with your address on it to prove you lived in the catchment area,

Hi op. I think some food banks work via referrral and some dont. Its a shame its the school holidays as the school could refer you. If i was you i would do a search online find out which local is open tomorrow and work out their referral process. I would call the utility companies again and beg for a top up. Local authorities now are responsible for emergency grants and loans, they will want to see your income expenditure bank statements ( basically everything) before offering financial assistance. Good luck op.

Kellylou222 · 21/08/2018 21:32

Yes i went to register and they asked for everyones birth certificate x

bradfordcentral.foodbank.org.uk/get-help/foodbank-vouchers/ Looks like the Trussel Trust run the food banks in Bradford, they usually operate on a referral voucher basis (although if ours where I volunteer is anything to go by, if you just turn up and explain your situation, they will do their absolute darndest to help you source a voucher - although of course that isn't the official advice!)

Have you got a citizens advice bureau near you? The list of those in the Bradford area, plus outreach centres, is here www.citizensadvice.org.uk/local/bradford-airedale/contact-us/ CAB's will often be able to issue vouchers, if you can't register with the gp yet?

How old are your children OP? If they are under school age please contact your health visitor for help. They can refer you to a foodbank, they may be able to advise you on local charities that could help with gas and electric top up and they can advise you on other local services.
