I am thinking of starting an English Language Consultancy for businesses who employ people who do not speak English as their first language.

Some market research - do you ever have language problems when dealing with banks, services or other companies?

Do you feel you would be more inclined to use that company / service again if the employee you spoke to had a better command of the English language?

Thanks for any imput

Problems - yes, absolutely. This is mainly to do with telephone calls, eg. when you call national Rail and get connected to someone in Mumbai. I find it is about 50/50 - sometimes someone with excellent and charming English, and sometimes someone who finds it difficult to understand me or I find it difficult to understand them.
There is a clothing company that I order from occasionally, and yes, part of the reason why I use them is because communication is very clear. (Although it also has to do with their good customer service as well).

My DP is not English and does have a strong accent. Part of his old job included alot of customer service work and he only had a couple of complaints in two years (they happened to be hard of hearing) So in his experience it didn't make a difference.

Purpleflower, can I ask what your dhs first language is?

IME as an English language teacher, some accents are much easier (for English people) to understand than others. Also studies have shown people have very different attitudes to different accents. (internationally as well as regional)
