I was humiliated at work today

I went to my place of work to sort out a return to work date and was waiting at the reception desk. (I work for a financial institution)

There was a lady being dealt with by one of my colleagues and she was getting more and more irate. She then started saying how all of her taxes went on unmarried mothers claiming off of the state. (this was being directed at me) "all these fat overweight mothers, they disgust me. They make me sick, with their rolls of fat hanging over, it's disgusting." And she said this a few times at the top of her voice.

I avoided eye contact and wished the ground would open up. My colleague told her that she was being extremely offensive and took her elsewhere to deal with her.

I tried to brush off the insults, but they hurt, epsecially when there's truth behind them.

Cue my self esteem dropping to virtually nothing.

Fuck her...You are worth so much more

Trust me - feel sorry for her. You have nothing to feel bad about.

If I'd have been sat there she would have been talking about me, and the mood I'm in I'd have let her know the error of her ways

Anyway, forget her. Normally people like that have huge insecurities of their own.

What a cow. Who was this lady? Was she a client or an employee? If the latter I would make a formal complaint about her.

And there's no truth behind her remarks - what stupid things to say.

It sounds like she immense bitterness towards mothers full stop TBH. Perhaps she lost a child or desperately wanted kids and didn't find the right partner? That doesn't make her bitterness ok, but what I mean is, her savagery is not really about you, it's about her and HER self-esteem.

I don't know what line of work you're in, but actually your employer has a duty of care to not place you in this position. Is there any way you can make a formal complaint about this woman? Client or not, she simply has no right to abuse her position in order to humiliate a member of staff.

Do you know before all this had happened, I'd had a good day and had an offer accepted on a house (We're all living at my mums house)

I shouldn't have let her get to me really, it's not as if she knew who I really was - half of the things she was saying about me weren't true anyway.

I had a few tears when i got home but feel better now.

Well she's patently wrong, obviously you are not claiming off the state any more than anyone else if you were there to organise a date to go back to work.

Agree, all kinds of nutters - my friend in NZ works as a credit control clerk and had death threats recently from a nutter who didn't like the fact that she had to ring him and ask him to pay some debts! She says it's an occupational hazard.

I expect this woman was there because she's in debt - hurling those accusations at someone else helps her feel better I suppose. The guilty often accuse others of the same kind of offences, don't they?

A helpful thing someone once said to me about a particularly spiteful woman:-

I've felt much better today after a good nights sleep

Now I need to be proactive and lose this damn weight and liking myself a bit more.

Oh Margo - what a cow that woman was. Just remember when you are on those uphill walks I'm right there with you (OK probably puffing up a few meters behind you!!) I need to shed a few (well several) pounds - sometimes it takes a horrible cow woman to spur you into action!! Good for you and glad you are feeling better today my love.

I am going on the scales tomorrow and I will let you know how much I need to lose before I am back to my wedding weight (although 1 and a half stone at least is down to having huge boobs!)
