Had a note today that for dd's first ballet exam at end of June she needs new satin shoes and matching socks. Is this standard ? Half of me realises that dd could use new shoes anyway as I can't believe they fit but the cynic in me wonders if it is really necessary and resents being told what to do when ! Do they get extra marks for it or something , lol. She's 5 btw !!

dirty hair is the key

My tip for buns is gel styling spray and use a brush first to get it ll together then a fine comb to get it all neat. Bobble in to secure then twist and pin as you go, put on bun net double it back on itself if too big, secure a hair pin then secure it all with another bobble.

Don't worry teachers will help with buns if htey have to be perfect. My DD is doing RAD exams and from Grade1 on they are strict. Personaly I like her do do something that requires a lot of disipline. But at age 3 and 4 it doesn;t have to be.

Must remember to get new satin shoes. Don't mind as she needs new ones anyway. Most mums hang off getting new shoes until exams anyway. Socks don't matter as much as long as they look clean and are the right ones.

Think yourself lucky... my boys had to have an entire new regulation kit for every exam, which they then refused to wear for class . Had they been girls their teacher would have insisted on them wearing it for class but boys were allowed to get away with murder.

As they were the same grade I once managed to hand down kit from DS1 to DS3 but only once. The last exam they had new shoes (mens sizes), tights, leotard. Came to £40 each

(Didn't have to worry about hair though )

£12 for new shoes and socks At least they're half a size larger than her current ones but apparently they must be a decent fit to show off their toes ! Next stop Superdrug for hair stuff....
