how long do you have to keep paperwork if you are self employed??

in theory 6 years (and its counted from date return is in rather than end of tax year I thinmk) as that is the usual enquiry window into ordinary returns but they can open up to 20 years later if there is suspicion of fraud (doubt that will apply to you )

www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/selfemp.htm#2 has the official guidance. Yes, I would keep the accounts, but you can bin the receipts.
