IF YOU SMOKE WHERE DO YOU DO IT?

Just wondered if anyone who smokes where they do it.

I occasionally like a cigerette in the evenings after the children are in bed if I have had a bad day and will smoke outside, never in the house.

I have been known to have a "funny cigarette" which i finds calms my nerves and an alternative to taking anti depressants in the past when I have found life stressful.

Anyone else par take and would admit it?

As a mother I know it is wrong but feel sure there are more people out their who indulge than would admit to.

I was a smoker on and off for a long time. I smoked in the garden (even as a smoker, I hated people smoking in my house / in the car). Haven't smoked weed for years, though.

flowerpot69 · 23/05/2007 19:41

I only started smoking at 25 after never having had a cigarette.

i tried weed then as well and found it relaxing as I have always been a worrier and found it gave me confidence and made me feel better about myself.

I of course gave up when i had my children and after when i was breast feeding but went back to it a couple of years later.

I look forward to it in the evenings, sad but true and like to put on some music and relax.
Its probably a reminder for me of those carefree days before children .

Have to say I don't regret having my children one bit but this "ritual" keeps me sane and takes me back and makes me feel relaxed after a stressful day.

are you talking about weed or cigaretts?

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 23/05/2007 19:48

I smoke, either hanging out of my office window or I go into the garden/hang out of the garden door

I gave up when pregnant and only started again when I was getting divorced

flowerpot69 · 23/05/2007 19:48

Both ,weed only occasionally though.

oh, and I don't like weed tbh, it makes me too sleepy

I was referring to cigarettes

flowerpot69 · 23/05/2007 19:52

I think stressful situations in life is when I tend to smoke more.

I wonder what I did to releive stress before I started smoking as have never liked alcohol.Probably a case of being young and never had to deal with any major upset in my life at that time.

Then I did lose my mother and father within 3 years of each other around that time and my brother a few years later.

I don't really like weed.
I haven't actually stopped smoking, but I don't like smoking on my own. Therefore, I spend months without smoking and everytime I go back to Italy, where lots of friends still smoke, I end up smoking a lot, when we go out.

Diplidophus · 23/05/2007 20:46

I partake...

but DP hates it and has restricted it hugely (not necessarily a bad think) I used to be unable to unwind without a spliff and was a daily smoker througout most of my 20's.

I am allowed a smoke in the living room or bathroom after DP has gone to bed on weekends only.

However currently pregnant so have had only 2 in the last 8 months (very weak before you all attack and yes, I researched proper medical journals to look at the acute effects). I miss it as I do find it wonderful to relax to.

divastrop · 23/05/2007 20:53

i smoke...i manage to give up when pregnant only to find as soon as ive given birth its like i never stopped smoking

i only ever smoke outside,i have never smoked in the house.

i used to smoke weed now and again when i was young, but i never liked it,i too used to just fall asleep.

i do look forward to a glass of wine and a cig in the evening when the kids have gone to bed,and fwiw i think its just the same to look forward to a joint in the evening.

I was wondering if I would get anymore replies to this thread!!

Agree weed does make you sleepy but then when I have bouts of insomnia finds this helps.

I smoke outside the back door when the kids are safely asleep (sometimes at school) and hate myself for doing it, but it's also a great part of the day - just me in the garden looking at the stars.

TheArmadillo · 23/05/2007 21:17

smoke fags outside.

Smoke weed only very occassionally since I had ds (was constantly before that) and either outside or more usually at friends. Gave it up when pregnant (and made dp give it up too). Though most of my friends still are complete stoners. Tolerance level gone down as well so can only manage a little bit. Am less depressed now and have a hell of a lot more motivation (so does dp).

Am glad I gave up the weed apart from occasionally. Took up fags again when ds was a few months old (after quitting when I found out I was pregnant).

MaPickle · 23/05/2007 21:20

Diplidophis, I think if you were a heavy smoker and have only had 2 cigs in 8 months you've done really really well and shouldn't beat yourself up about it.

Now I've had the baby, I look forward to a ciggie in the back garden when he's asleep and a toke with dh on his nights off too ... i find having a drink to unwind makes it hell to get up at 5.30 with DS!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one ...

Desiderata · 23/05/2007 21:21

I smoke pretty much anywhere the ds isn't (within a certain range). I smoke roll-ups (the smoke is no where near as pervasive), generally in the kitchen with the door open.

Not keen on 'funny cigarettes'. I'd rather have a glass of wine, but I take your point about relieving stress.

flowerpot69 · 23/05/2007 21:32

It is good to know that I am not the only one.

Take your point armadillo about motivation so try and keep it to a minimmum.

I also smoke roll ups as find cigarettes too strong.

I smoke roll ups too, with a filter. Know what you mean about the smoke not being as pervasive
