Just wondering if you had any training prior to working or you just fell into it?

My sister does this. She has no teacher training, but is a qualified nanny. She does one to one learning support to a little boy with SN.She originally applied for a job as a teaching assistant, but the head rang her at home & said that she would be wasted doing that & offered her the learning support job instead. She loves it & the little lad is really improving.

thanks mirage
I am interested because prior to having Dc I was a mental health worker and also worked in brain injury rehab. So feel that this type of job will be less stressful but also fit in around the little fishes when they go to school. Think I have a lot of the qualities to do the job but just trying to work out whether to go for that or retrain to be a special educational needs teacher.

Glad to help.Would it be worth seeing if you can get a job as a support assistant first,to see if you enjoy it & go on from there if you do?

With your background,I'd think that the education people would have your hand off if you applied for either position.Good \luck with whatever you decide to do.

Just remember how much work you would do as a teacher in your own time!

I switched careers & am now a TA in a secondary school. Training wise I have a good batch of qualifications + I did a BTEC Level 2 TA course (although this wasn't a requirement for the job I got). Another point to think about is would you want to work in primary or secondary - generally primary seems a lot more competitive & jobs are harder to come by.

What I also did was went into a school as a volunteer one day a week - that also looked good on my CV
