Where does the saying come from?????

Why do people say it takes more of a man to conceive a girl.

My friend and I have been trying to figure out how this is true:

percentage of male to female sperm
speed of sperm swimming etc etc

does anyone actually know????

Never heard the phrase. Maybe because the male sperm determnines the sex of the baby, it takes more "effort" to make a girl, not just relying on male sperm?

There is some anecdotal evidence that "macho" men (army generals, pilots, presidents etc) father more girls than boys - something to do with keepind down aggressive traits in future generations (maco men fathering boys would have more macho boys whereas having girls would keep this in balance). Sorry not very well explained but hopefully YKWIM

I see what you mean neet. It's funny how these things come about - it's something everyone says but I bet hardly anyone know where it comes from.

I've not heard that one before - how about this one

Anyone can knock a hole in a tin can, but it takes a craftsman to solder a spout on.

I'm trying to think of any macho men now, just to see if they have boys or girls.

Bruce Willis has all girls - that proves the theory!

I've never heard the tin can one - it doesn't make any sense to me!! Duh

Piffleoffagus · 11/08/2004 12:59

I heard that girls are conceived as they girly sperm swim fast and furious, but the boy sperm linger in the hope of catching a falling egg
Could be bolloxxxx mind you

sweetheart · 11/08/2004 13:04

I heard that too piffle but how does that prove the macho man theory???

Or am I just being thick

sweetheart - the saying refers to the anatomical difference between boys (who have a 'spout' and girls.....it implies that it takes more skill to make a boy...not meant to be a seriuos comment

Piffleoffagus · 11/08/2004 13:12

I guess cos a man who shoots them out fastre, amkes more girls?
