is it for charity? If so there are grants and funding avaiable but the Trustees can meet quite infrequently and take months to come to a decision so you need to start looking now
Venue - contact the borough in which the venue is in to see about rules and regs re hiring
Health and Safety - this is a PITA. A large public event will need policing (possibly), First Aiders, Public Liability Insurance etc etc
Suppliers - you will need to find a list of people who can supply seating etc
Acts of G-d - plan B if it rains!!!!
Good luck

i think you also need to apply for a public entertainers license.

If your local authority have an "events team" or a "festival team" talk to them. phone teh main LA contact number and ask the receptionist.

You also need various licenses depending on what sort of concert it is.

An events licence, a PPL licence if recorded music is used and a PRS licence if live music is used.

You should try and get hold of a Purple Guide (Pop Guide ), gives you all the legal requirments and loads of info.

First port of call will be the council as they will have the say so on so many aspects of your event.

For a first event I would strongly suggest going for an established venue. It might work out a whole lot cheaper by the time you bring in everything you would need (like loos) for an outdoor event. Perhaps a function suite with access to gardens to give you an outdoor space with out all the hassle.

Not sure how well he's thought it thru to be honest, but I said I'd try to find some info soo.. :0
