Have noticed today that my engagement ring is looking dull, what can I use to clean it?

I use my electric toothbrush and soapy water, but you can get them cleaned in jewellers.

LynetteScavo · 18/05/2007 23:11

You buy a tub of special liquid form the jewelers, put the ring in for a while, and hey presto!

binkleandflip · 18/05/2007 23:12

I put mine in a glass with lemon juice for a minute then buff it off

Avalon · 18/05/2007 23:12

First I soak rings in washing up liquid and warm water, in a cup.
Then I use a soft brush on my rings. I've also used an old toothbrush before now.

mrsmalumbas · 18/05/2007 23:12

soak it in gin, then give it a good scrub

your ring will then be nice and sparkling fnurr fnurr ooh err missus

wurlywurly · 18/05/2007 23:12

hot water with a squirt of washing up liquid always does mine. Leave it in soak for while, fish it out and give it a scrub with a toothbrush. Should make it nice and sparkly again

sparklygothkat · 18/05/2007 23:13

lol don't have gin here, neither of us drink it.

Tooth brush and toothpaste - its ever so slightly abrasive and brings 'em up lovely and shiny.

Bubbaloo · 18/05/2007 23:28

My mum always used to "boil" her rings in a saucepan on the hob. They came up lovely but apparently you can only do this to a diamond.Now...she puts her rings in a small washing net and ties it in the dishwasher-they come out sparkling.

jampot · 18/05/2007 23:34

i heard that you should soak it in vodka which i did just the other day. Afterwards the it sparkled so much it nearly blinded me

seems a shame though, to waste the vodka

Mum2FunkyDude · 19/05/2007 09:45

The jeweler that made my ring said to use the following: boiling water (half a cup) with a teaspoon of dish-washing liquid and a teaspoon of scouring cream CIF etc.) mix well, leave any jewelry in for about 10-15 min. Take out, use soft clean cloth and buff! Looks like new!
