Not a very exciting topic I know but our post delivery is getting silly

When we first moved in a year ago our mail arrived before DH left for work - so easily before 7:45/8am. Now we are lucky if it arrives before lunchtime. Not a general problem ut it is if there are any parcels - as the postman won't leave them in the post box area unless he has spoken to you via the intercom first. So we are forever missing stuff and it takes 48 hours to get them returned again.

Today I have to go out at 11:15am but I know that I should be getting a delivery from The Nappy Lady most probably today. I need the stuff to take on holiday tomorrow lunch time. And it is so frustrating!!!

Nothing I could do about it I know; just ranting.

So has your post delivery time changed? And is it getting later and later?

anywhere between 6am and 8am, we live above shops, one of which is a Post Office, we are first stop.
Greta you think, until you get recorded delivery ebay parcels by the bag full everyday at 6am...

iota · 10/08/2004 10:53

hula - our post has gone haywire recently - we've even had deliveries at 5.30 pm - I think it's something to do with the PO cutting out the second delivery and re-arranging the rounds.

Have to say though that I don't think I've EVER had a second delivery except at Xmas

bundle · 10/08/2004 10:54

any time between 10am and 3pm

enid · 10/08/2004 10:54

Ours comes anytime between 11am and 1pm - but we live right out in the country. If anyone sends anything special delivery - ie guaranteed before 12 - the postman has to make a special trip out to us, he loves that, as you can imagine

Hulababy · 10/08/2004 10:55

I guess there is always a downside then - 6am wake up call just isn't necessary I guess!

iota - I have never had a second delivery.

Our post used to come early along with all the shops, etc - we live in city centre. But it is now delivered seperately. I think the businesses now pay to get an early delivery instead.

You lot don't know you're born!

Post here comes at about 1.30 one or two days a week, and sometimes we get nothing for 2 weeks (presumably when postie is on holiday). They never bring parcels out - just the cards which say you weren't in and you always have to go and collect them.

It could be worse though - in our old house the local post office only opened between 9 and 10am so you had to get there at that time to pick up any parcels.

xoz · 10/08/2004 11:07

Our was around 7:30am but since the changes with the new delivery it is now about 10:30am. I don't find it a problem, but the parcel thing is a bit annoying. Some of the parcel posties around here have taken to putting the parcels in our paper recycling box if we're not home, which is fine most of the time. I wonder though if the paper collectors check to make sure that there aren't any parcels in the box before they empty it????? I doubt it!!!! Wonder how many parcel have gone for recycling!!!!!

charliecat · 10/08/2004 11:07

Mine used to get here at 7.30 on the dot 6 days a week, now its between 9.30 and midday and sometimes not at all...then the day after that theres twice as much mail...funny that.
Parcels are abandoned outside my front door for anyone to steal, but somehow none have been so far.

Fio2 · 10/08/2004 11:19

midday

Fio2 · 10/08/2004 11:20

but after reading SP's post maybe we shouldnt be moaning about the royal mail!

Tiggiwinkle · 10/08/2004 11:29

Ours used to come early-usually before 9.00am-and we would then get a secon delivery at luchtime up until about a year ago.
Now we certainly dont get a second delivery and the post can come at any time in the day-when our regular postman is away it has come at 4.30
in the afternoon.
The worst instance was during a particularly bad week when we spotted an agency postman delivering in our area at 6.30 on a SATURDAY evening!(I was told when I contacted the customer services that our sorting office manager was away that week!)

lou33 · 10/08/2004 13:17

Anytime from 9 until about 2, usually 12 ish.

fruitful · 10/08/2004 13:20

Somewhere between 10-12. Postie is nicely trained to leave parcels behind the gate, or "sign for" ones with the neighbours.

coppertop · 10/08/2004 13:25

On average we get a delivery at about 10.30 am. There have been times when the postman has made deliveries at 7pm (yes, PM!) and at other times we've had no letters for days, then miraculously have received a huge pile of letters the next day.

suedonim · 10/08/2004 14:32

Between 8.30 and 9.30am. There are no second deliveries cos we're in the countryside. We always have the same two or three postmen and they are very good, even at delivering mail that's incorrectly addressed.

wickedstepmum · 10/08/2004 17:13

usually about 11, somethimes 12, but they'v just changed the rotas and it is getting closer to 9 but this morning (typical) he turned up at 8 when I was in the bath. The dog was outside and our postie (a dog breeder) won't get out of his van if the dog is about so I had to get out of the bath, find towel, find dressing gown, not find slippers, and all for a circular for the owner/occupier, a bank circular for 2nd daughter and a re-directed you-have-won-a-million-pounds-if-you-give-us-fifty-first for my Mum...

tallulah · 10/08/2004 17:15

Since the change around, 11 am. What use is that? If you are waiting for something they are effectively delaying it by a day- too late to do anything when you get home after 5 pm.

Hulababy · 10/08/2004 17:17

Well post came sometime after 11:45am today - it is normally before lunch (just) but after I had gone out.

But the parcel I was awaiting desperately - has 2 bedwetter pants in I want to take away with us - didn't arrive. So typically first class post is no longer next day delivery _ AGAIN!

Hopefully it'll arrive before we leave tomorrow - around 11:30am/12 noon. Fingers crossed.

5 to 8, on the dot, everyday. and we are deeply rural. we love our postlady so much we recently all signed a petition when they were going to move her to another round. so they didn't! hurrah, the power of local sentiment...

windypops · 11/08/2004 11:47

Its very annoying here as well, 4 years ago when I moved in we got the post 8-8.30 every day, we have had about 5 different postman, and now usually it comes 11-1 although a few times in the last few weeks it has arrived at 4 pm. and perhaps every 2 weeks or so it doesn't turn up, we are one of those households that get at least 5 letters a day.

JanZ · 11/08/2004 11:56

Our post now arrives some time around lunch time.

Even when there were two deliveries (supposedly) we never seemed to get a second delivery (except at Christmas), as the first post would only arrive around 9.30. And they couldn't argue that we are rural, as I'm about 1.5 miles from Glasgow city centre.

We have a standing joke aobut Tuesday. We FREQUENTLY get no post on a Tuesday, despite every other day of the week getting 3+ items (mostly junk!)
