This has made me want to start incubating eggs, and am currently lookin on ebay as we speak!

ska · 17/05/2007 17:12

but we hatched some once and got 4 cockerels and they had to 'go away' as we'd promised neighbours not to have cocks. what do you do with unwanted cockerels?

Oh do start a blog!

newlifenewname · 17/05/2007 23:40

Mine are all set and have sorted the humidity and temp, which is slightly different for chicken eggs as opposed to duck.

Will start blog soon - have been investigating blog options this eve.

We hatched all female ducks so not had to deal with getting rid of unwanted males - 'cept in the human (as opposed to humane!) sense.

Ahhh the wit!

SuperSleuth · 18/05/2007 00:08

Do you have to have proper incubators to do this then?

newlifenewname · 18/05/2007 10:37

You do really SS. You need to keep the tempt very consistent along with high humidity which is difficult to achieve in a regular box.

Cheap incubators are effective though.

My blog address is dippyegg.wordpress.com but I've not written anything yet.

Will do photos and stuff later.

I'm hatching 6 hen's eggs.

we hatched under abroody and we have a small incubator (were given this as a hand me down) which a friend used. in each case males got hatched though which is a problem as we're in the country but not the wilds. Will check the blog!!

Ooo I really want to do this but 1, I dont have an incubator and 2, I dont think my dogs would be very impressed.

MegaLegs · 19/05/2007 11:08

I'm still waiting to try this but my broody hen has unbroodied herself!!

Will read rest of thread properly now -

ska · 20/05/2007 10:33
