Passport form - advice needed

My mum has countersigned a passport application form, and it says the signature mustn't go outside the box. Her signature has gone onto the thick border around the box but not outside of that border - if i send it will the passport office send it back again? I won't be able to get her to countersign it again for a while and the application is quite urgent so i can't just get another form.

And another thing, if your biometric passport accidentally goes through the wash when your girlfriend has a rare bout of enthusiasm for housework do you have to get a new one? I've had yes and no from the passport office, but don't want DP to get stopped from coming back into the country! Thanks

apparently the signature is ok if it goes just outside the box and that bit being cut off does not interfere with the integrity of the signature [ie bottom of a p, or top of a L]. Might be worth going to a post office as their check and send service should be able to tell you if its ok.
not sure about biometric in the wash - think there are readers somewhere [travel agents?] that can tell you if it still works
hope that helps

I had a passport form rejected for touching the line .. so I don't think they will accept it

you can pay the post office to check it

I think you'll most probably need to get it signed again

Whose passport application has your mum signed? I thought it could be anyone related to you!

With the signature thing if you have it checked at the Post Office they can tell you if its ok and also its supposed to be a quicker service. (mine recently only took 10 days and thats with a Bank Holiday in there too!)

Just thought I'd mention, and I may be on the wrong track, but if it's for you then I don't think you can get your mum to sign it.

hoxtonchick · 16/05/2007 17:51

i reckon they will prob reject it...

MrsWeasley · 16/05/2007 17:53

just asked a friend who checks these things and the general opinion is that if its touching the line it will be rejected, it to do with the scanning area for the signature!

thanks guys i will just sort out another one then. Don't worry the passport's not for me, but i'm in charge of getting it filled out and sending it. I always wondered who couldn't manage to sign in the box and now i know!

Well after reading this I had no other choice but to drive Peterborough in the snow with a application with a missing passport number and the counter signature was outside the box, fingers crossed went in and said it was fine, had a new passport within 48 hours (1 week fast track - lost)

Signed up just to let you know don't worry there alot more relaxed than 11 years ago when this was first posted
