Slugs are taking over my hall!

They are driving me mad. Every time we go to bed there are one or two of the little blighters crawling up the carpet and wall around the front door. I think they are getting in around the door frame somewhere and I am sick of removing them. Anybody have any ideas on how to stop them?

BUMP

Seriously, I'm desperate, I can't stand picking them up any longer. Slug pellets are no good I think because I don't want the kids picking them up etc.

We had this problem in a flat a long time ago and I remember putting down salt - this kills them I think. Sadly I can't remember how well it worked, haven't forgotten treading on them in bare feet in the kitchen though, and reaching out my hand to pick up the shampoo and find one crawling up there too. Revolting, Good luck

Apparently jars filled with beer does the trick. Should keep the slugs at bay. Nice boozy treat for them.

I've heard that they don't like coffee. Won't kill them like salt (so you won't be picking up shrivelled dead slugs!). Worked for a friend of mine who had them coming in an air vent.

Thanks, will try those suggestions

I have heard this trick but haven't tried it. If you strip old electrical cable to the copper core and lay that down, the slugs won't cross it. It gives then a funny shock....a bit like when a fork accidentally touches a metal filling.

My brother used to protect his vegetable patch by laying stripped copper wire everywhere and used to swear by it.

Sounds good. I could lay it infront of the doorplate at the bottom of my front door. Will mention it to dh now. Thanks Pacific .
