Present for baby questions

My wonderful secretary is going on maternity leave soon. So a couple of questions:
(i) any suggestions re what to buy for the baby?
(ii) I'm taking her out for lunch this week before she goes on maternity leave but she isn't actually going to be on maternity leave until September - do I get her a present in time for the lunch, just before she goes on maternity leave in September or once she has the baby (or more than one of thes occassions?)?

I would say a present when she goes (for her - nice smellies or chocs or a novel/book token maybe), and then one for the baby when it arrives (could be a nice boquet or an actual baby present).

is this her first? If so, there are so many things to choose from! I like giving presents other than clothing (just because everyone else does) like little simple board books, or the leather booties or wooden letters for the baby's room? Maybe something for the mum to be at your lunch and then something for the baby later on ( good chance to go for a visit!)

Have you seen the Mumsnet lists -
Parent gifts
Baby gifts

A bottle of champagne once she's popped the sprog would not go amiss IMO.

how about the mumsnet books?
i've just ordered 2 for my friends

What about a present for her, to pamper her? We bought our colleague a pedicure voucher because she couldn't reach her feet and then got a gift for the baby when he was born. Maybe give her the gift now so she has a chance to use it before she's full term.
For the baby I'd suggest either
a) not buying clothes/toys as he will be given LOADS of both,
or
b) buying clothes in maybe a 6-9 month age as she'll be given plenty in 0-3.
Vouchers for baby shops might be handy so she can choose what she needs, or wait until the baby's born to get a personalised gift. Maybe a rose bush or small tree that can be planted and grow with the baby..?
