We've just been to ikea and brought this sofa in landefall red but don't know what colour curtians we can put with it.we don't want cream as the walls are cream and we don't want the curtains to fade into the wall so to speak

so all you budding interior designers please help me.

suggest chocolate brown as raspberry is an ceent colour for brown so surely reverse would be true?

Or very dark

What about cream with a darker red pattern, or the other way (darker red with a cream pattern)?

Or you could go for a completely different colour, perhaps a pattern that has a little of that red, or a soft blue, and have scatter cushions made up in the curtain fabric to tie it all together.

I really like Ikea sofas, we've bought much more expensive ones for our current flat, but the Ikea ones we had in our last house were the most comfortable I've ever owned.

I think I should be clearer about the blue, as I now realise that most blues will clash with that red and 'soft' isn't a very good description. I mean a paleish, slate blue/grey. I can see it in my mind, but I can't descripe it very well.

... as I was saying before DD cut off power...

dark cream/coffee with darker brown pattern?

boudicca · 03/08/2004 18:18

I think if your room is big you could go with the brown idea,if it's small though I'd keep to the red tone with,as already suggested, cream patterning.

I always think very dark green looks lovely.

I just had a look at Ikea curtains, what about Jutta Ruta or Ellen? If you're making your own Strib is nice-you could always make some cushions in the smaller stripe.

I would do white with a very sparse red pattern to match the couch.
