My Ds7 and his friend, 8 have been playing out on their baby scooters, doing stunts etc, and my ds has chipped bob the builders head on his friends scooter.
His friend has just been round to ask for £26 cause he's "broken his scooter"
I don't know what to do cause
a I'm really really skint
and b it's obviously a scooter he's had for years and it's old looking,
but on the other hand, my ds did break it!!!

id go n see his mum, £26 is a lot for an old scooter! if its bob the builder he must have had it at least 3 years ago. Seriously it's a chip does it matter? Maybe offer to repair it? like paint it?

saintmaybe · 04/05/2007 17:29

what!!!!!

does his mum not want anyone to let their dcs play with him unless his toys break?

was it done on purpose, or 'deliberately carelessly' iykwim?

surely these things happen?

maybe his mum didn't know he came and he's just trying it on?

LoveMyGirls · 04/05/2007 17:29

think about it this way if it was your ds's would you buy him a new one cus it was chipped/ would you expect his mates mum to cough up? i wouldnt.

NoodleStroodle · 04/05/2007 17:30

Sorry accidents happen. How do you know for sure that it wasn't cracked already? Stuff happens when kids play. Oh and an 8 year old on a baby scooter - like he cares? They were doing stunts - lucky only a scooter got damaged.

MaureenMLove · 04/05/2007 17:31

The friend has been round? not the parent? Well, either the kid is trying his luck or the parent is taking the p*ss by telling him to come and get some money. Can you speak to the parent?

alipiggie · 04/05/2007 17:34

Blimey if I made a child play for every broken toy in this house - I could have been very wealthy . Seriously though, boys play tough things get broken. I would never ever expect someone to pay unless something was deliberately broken. Accidents happen.

LynetteScavo · 04/05/2007 17:35

This is so out of order. I can't stand it when people do things like this.... and send the child around to ask for £26, like you're just going to hand over that much money to a child on the door step. These things happen. There is no way I'd expect a neighbour to pay for a toy their child had broken, (and we've had some very nice toys broken!)

dingolimpet · 04/05/2007 17:37

I'm waiting for Dp to come home and go round!!
If it were me, I wouldn't give a crap, unless it was a new toy or something.
I'm not sure what his mum has said, i just asked, and he said she said it cost thirty quid, but wanted £26. I think he might be trying it on, cause I said I'd get him the same scooter and he said he wanted the cash!!
It isn't really repairable, Bob's hard hat has a piece missing, but the scooter's fully funcioning. You could just take the bob face off.

Does an 8 year old care about Bob the Builder? I think not

dingolimpet · 04/05/2007 17:40

It was an accident BTW, just doing stunts.
I do feel a bit bad cause he has a baby brother, and maybe they were saving it for him, but if it comes to it, i'll buy the same one, no way i'm handing over cash

see,i have been on the other side in the sense that ds's friend is as rough as they come,he seems to get a kick out of breaking ds's toys as it doesn't matter what it is,it gets broken in his hands.i'm now at the point where i do not let him in the house or play with ds's toys/football/bike outside as i'm so sick of forking out for new things he has broke.if it happens again i will ask his parents to pay/replace the item.

but,if it was genuine and not your sons fault and the first time something like this has happened it's out of order for her to expect you to pay,an apology should be all.

dingolimpet · 04/05/2007 18:07

I'll just let Dp sort it out I think
