I started a thread a while ago saying i was interested in this, can't find it now but i had it done last night.(a b'day pressie off dh-romantic eh??)

Can't say it was pleasant and wouldn't say i feel any different after having it done but i did find it interesting.
the nurse told me that i was VERY bloated and all that was removed from me was mainly wind and that it looked like i had an intolerance from wheat by the looks of my pooand all of the bloating.
she also said there was evidence of thrush(candida bacterium or something)in the stools and that it's no wonder i can't lose weight.

so i'm a little relieved to know why i can't shift my weight but at the same time don't know what to do about it?!

candida is a fungus ( a commaon version of it is candida albicans), not a bacteria. It would be impossible to identify it visually from your stools. It is microsocopic. Unless, that it, she took a sample of your faeces and examined it under the microscope.

Given that 1/2 to 1/3 of a normal stool ois made up of dead e coli bacteria, identifying a single celled, microscopic fungus would be a heck of a trick!

she said the thrush was visible as i had very mucousy, milky stools but i always thought that was ibs??
why do you think she would have said that then? i didn't even know you got thrush in your bum,i had it during pregnancy in my vagina but is that the same thing?

i'm confused!!

You can have candida infections of any moist surface....vagina and mouth are common. But it is normal to have the candida fungus in your stool. Given that the fares will have been fouced out by large amounts of water, I very much doubt that she would see large colonies of candida on the surface. And individual candida are invisable to the naked eye

But I am nt a doctor, and neither, unless I am very much mistaken, is she.

we live and learn. Can you see it in mushed up poo though? or on the lining of the bowel wall?

i can't beleive we are having this conversation!!
it was kinda clinging to the poo-there would be,say and inch of poo with a milky cling on the size of the poo, then loads of water, then a milky floater, more poo with milky bits-is that enough for you!!
i'm on the National candida society as we speak and it sounds like it could be the answer to other things-pmt,migraines,chronic tiredness etc.

one assumes the faeces wouldn't be in 'log' form.....I really have no idea, never having had CI! (smile) so I would have thought it very hard to spot colonies of candida. Wouldn't the poo be rather liquidised?

Blandmum · 04/05/2007 14:46

and your wonderfully graphic explanation there! I'm enjoying a coffee as I type this

ash6605 · 04/05/2007 14:49

MB-with milk in??

some were great huge chods of poo, others quite slushy!!

MB - you're not edging towards suggesting that Colonic Irrigation - ash's b'day present - is Bad Science, are you? [innocent emoticon]

Mucousy stuff is a symptom of colitis / IBS isn't it?

And I thought all intestines had candida living in themn - that's why women must wipe bottoms from front to back to prevent it getting in your fanjo?

Blandmum · 04/05/2007 14:54

Indeed they do! lots of candida in poo. It is what helps to cause nappy rash etc.

No problem with people showing stuff up their bottoms, whatever foats their collective boats.

Find it hard to understand how a dx can be made from looking at the stuff though.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/05/2007 15:55

I believe colonic irrigation and 'high enemas' are pretty much the same. Well folks, you can do it yourself
Don't try this at home(unless you are really bored and constipated)
