Northerner's computer is kaput - please help me help her get back on MN!

Northerner's laptop has gone doolally, everything on the screen is massive and you can only see the bottom left hand corner of the screen, as if it has zoomed in, IYKWIM.

It's very bizarre. Everything is so large you can't even get into control panel/display to change the size settings.

Does anyone know a quick fix? Could this have happened just by pressing the wrong function key?

Please can anyone help as she needs her laptop back asap.

Is there perhaps a magic 'reset all display settings' button?

DH says restart the computer & go into Safe Mode (press F8 when it loads up)

if you press control and roll the wheel of the mouse you can change the size of your screen???

FFF, not a mouse, she has a flat touch-sensitive pad thingy (check out my techo lingo!)
