Flicking Finger Syndrome

Does anyone have a DH with the same problem?

IT DOES MY HEAD IN, he is permanently flicking between tv channels - unfortunately we have recently had digital installed which has fed his habit further.

Is this a man thing? Any recommendations for curing this very IRRITATING HABIT.
Just had to get this off my chest.

I have same problem with dh and 4 dc ( is dear children an abbreviation?)
The solution is more than one TV. I get left to my own devices

I am one of those women who does this annoying habit. I know it drives my dh crazy because he is always commenting on this. I think it is just a formed habit. Sometimes I change channels so much I dont even realize the nights almost over.

My Dh flicks too, even if Im watching something he will just flick away. My mum is a really good flicker too.

Yes my dh has this problem (but not so bad as my FIL who LINES UP the remote controls for TV/video/dvd/stereo on his armchair and flicks BETWEEN them!! Drives me up the wall -especially as he will decide if something on TV is boring and turns the volume down without asking if anyone is watching!)
This irritating habit is surpassed only in my opinion by 'flicking on' finger in every room syndrome - both dh and now ds (at only 2.5 !) are guilty of this..... it involves going into a room and putting on the TV, then going into another room and putting the stereo on, then going somewhere else and putting a different TV on (different channel of course!) until every single room in the house seems to have some sort of noise blaring out of it - then for good measure, add a few of ds's electronic toys (e.g. Bob the Builder Muck truck is a prime culprit...) and I think my head is going to explode!!! Aaaaargh...........

My DH is guilty of finger flicking too, particularly when there isn't anything that he particularly wants to watch. He might put one channel on for about 5 minutes, then just as I am starting to get into the programme, over it goes to something else. I wouldn't mind if he had a flick around and then stuck with one programme but he doesn't.

I'm lucky with my DP in that his 'flicking' time seems to be after 9pm which is when I use the PC in the evening! Most of the day both of us just leave the TV on the channel that we started with in the morning, not bothering to change it - DP seems fond of the Jerry/Maury/Jenny/Oprah/Ricki marathon on LivingTV (strange man!) while I favour BBC1.

The worst 'flicking' behaviour I've come across is my parents: whenever the adverts come on they press the mute button. And its not like they have a conversation then either... This drives me to distraction!!

MandyD, I have to admit that I find the volume of the adverts to be most irritating. They are always far louder than the programme that you have just watched and we often have to reach for the volume control.

That seinfeld quote is so true! I do find the ads seem louder (though they swear it's not true) and do sometimes turn them down. My dh does have a habit of flicking between channels during ad breaks "to see what else is on", it's so annoying. He's on every channel for a few seconds, unless he finds something interesting (ie sport, a sex scene or an action movie), and then you end up missing the return of what you were supposedly watching in the first place! Grrr!

At least the remotes are out of their plastic covers now. For years he insisted on keeping the original plastic bags on the remotes "to keep them clean". In the end you could hardly see what button you were pressing! I THREW THEM AWAY! Now we have grotty remotes, but at least you can see the what the buttons say! (Makes for faster flicking too...sigh)

He was at it again last night - Infact, I got SOOO fed up that I sought solice on the internet for an hour or so (only until big brother - but he STILL managed to flick during the adverts)

The main problem is that not only is he a flicker, he flicks all the sports programmes on, I would not mind as much if they were half decent programmes he flicked between.

I'm tempted to put superglue on the remote, or parental controls on all the channels and pretend that the cable is playing up (that'll do it for a few hours).

PamT - our new Sony tv has a setting which means that the adverts remain at the same volume as the tv shows. It was a real bugbear of mine so I love it

Yes, my dd is a flicker too, Plus he is addicted to Teletext, if I as much as blink during a programme, teletext is on. Then if I try and read any of it, he flicks on to the next page before I have finished. grrr!
He also gets withdrawel symptons if I manage to get hold of the remote an a rare occasion and comes and takes it from me. He has even been known on some occasions to wander round the house with it (and into the loo) so I can't get my hands on it!!!

I've been known to take batteries out of remote if there's something on I want to watch - then the 'possesion is 9/10 of the law' thing just doesn't wash. Haaaaa.
