Irritable, moody - is it me or could it be my coil?

I seem to be suffering from permenant PMT. Is there such a thing? I feel irritable and grouchy a lot of the time. I have a coil and a couple of my friends say they feel the same way, but is it because we all have 2 small children apiece and are just tired and strung out? One friend said she had a coil removed after a couple of months after feeling peed off all the time then her doctor said they weren't surprised as the coil leaves the uterus (and possibly the hormones) in a permenant state of expecting a period therefore on the edge of PMT. Anyone else linking the two?

Hello Lalah

Completly know what you are experiencing! Had my second coil removed last year as I am sure husband was going to divorce me if I kept it in any longer. For about 2 weeks out of 4 felt like the world was about to end and for about 4 days a month really felt like killing my husband...everything he did was annoying and couldn't bear him in the same room! Had to have coil removed under a general as the strings had wrapped themselves around the actual coil and it wouldn't budge...as soon as it came out I felt like a completly normal person again the next day.

Poor you, that sounds awful. I have been thinking about the coil for a little while and I was thinking the opposite - that it would help with pmt! I suffer with pmt, my husband has just read your thread and it made him shiver that I was considering it (am I that bad??). How long have you had the coil?

Lalah that sounds really nasty. What do you use now instead?

Is it the Mirena coil? I haven't had pmt since I had it fitted 3 years ago. Sorry to throw a spanner in the works and all that

Another downside of the coil that I found were the awful periods - long and er plentiful! It wasn't unusual for them to last up to 2 weeks...which wasn't a problem really as wanted to shout at DH and not get all smoochy!

My doctor prescribed the mini pill today but I am a bit reluctant after reading the list of side effects (even though they are apparently unlikely). Anyone have any experience of that? What are you going to use now Lalah?

there is a BIG difference between a hormal impregnated coil and a traditional one - I have a non hormone one and love it, others love the hormone one - which is yours? If traditional I cannot see it mimicing PMT.
