wedding guest outfit - chicken or egg question

What should you buy first:
hat and then find an outfit to go with it OR outfit and then find a hat to go with it?

any ideas re September wedding outfits - I take it I'll freeze in a summer outfit?

I think it depends on whether you are intending the hat or the clothes to be more the focus of attention.

My advice would be to decide if your body or your face is the best bit of you - if it's your face then buy a gorgeous hat first then something to go with it & vv.

My top tip for autumn is the poncho!!!

Definitely buy the outfit first.

I wouldn't rule out something summery for a September wedding - have been to a few September weddings and they've been very balmy (as well as barmy . Just make sure you have something extra to keep you warm if needed (nice dressy shawl?)

I think it's usually easier to buy the hat first-there's more chance of finding an outfit that goes with it,than the other way around.

It's also easier to judge wether the hat is in proportion with you-rather than it being the 'only one' that goes IYKWIM.

I'd go for outfit first - if you can't find a hat to match, then you can go for a fancy head-piece instead. If you get the hat first, I think you're limited as to an outfit then.

And the way this summer's going, I think a September wedding would be quite warm. If not, you can always warm up a summer outfit with a lovely pashmina, or beaded cardigan (Monsoon style). Hope you find something soon!
