Would you live on one of those set up Caravan sites, or do you already?

Dh has been telling me this morning about a lady he works with is looking at living on one of these sites with her husband as he wants to retire early.
It costs £1500 per year for water, electric and gas and the caravans themselves cost £30k.
They plan to sell their home and pocket the cash to live on.

I've seen the site before and it is lovely and the Caravans are huge.

Thinking about it, it seems quite a good idea, sell the house, put the money in an off shore account

But the thought of living in a Caravan, hmmmmmmm.
Not sure I could really do it.

Could you?

I would.

In a flash.

Beats the hell out of living in some flat with neighbours on all four sides of you.

FiveFingeredFiend · 30/04/2007 12:18

I would, but not with small children.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 12:18

Really?
So if your dh was on board, could you say you'd go and look into it and seriously do it?

If i was retired - it could be quite appealing. A lovely place by the sea, a deck, and lots of gnomes and assorted fairytale tat for visiting grandchildren to admire....some of those caravans are very luxurious.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 12:21

why not with children FFF?

expatinscotland · 30/04/2007 12:21

I would do it with small kids.

Beats living in a flat that's not on the ground floor with NO outdoor living space at all.

FiveFingeredFiend · 30/04/2007 12:22

I'd much rather buy a good RV actually. Park near a beach. Gas bottle £7.50, electric battery - not much, wireless internet, not sure how water works though. For letters i would buy a PO box.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 12:23

God its soooo tempting lol.

We're actually considering static caravan life for the long-term.

FiveFingeredFiend · 30/04/2007 12:24

Expat you must buy an RV immediatley and move to a beach.

madmarchhare · 30/04/2007 12:25

Have you seen the Teletubbies one where they live on oa bus?

I could live on a barge. I think.

FiveFingeredFiend · 30/04/2007 12:25

Rosie & JIM!

expatinscotland · 30/04/2007 12:26

I don't want an RV, and I wouldn't want to live on a beach in the UK.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 12:27

Awww I'd love to live on a barge. But deffo not with kids.

OP posts:
Nbg · 30/04/2007 12:27

Where would you live Expat?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 30/04/2007 12:29

Dunno, Nbg, but we've got two years to make it work here in the UK or we're honestly going to have to leave the country.

We cannot afford to stay here long-term, so we are looking at static caravan as a means to do so.

charliecat · 30/04/2007 12:29

There is a gorgeous site round here(Kent) Lovely, nicer that the housing estates and the caravans go for 100,000

we looked into it a long time ago. it is still very tempting.

expatinscotland · 30/04/2007 12:31

We're going to give it some thought, indeed, misdee.

Nbg · 30/04/2007 12:34

Its interesting to hear this actually.

Sad that life is sooooo bloody expensive though.

Dh is really getting into the idea lol. It scares me when he gets this excited.

some of them have more space overall than a lot of flats. i also like the flat packed log cabin i saw once on a tv show. that was massive. was classed as mobile home as considered temporary, but could last over 40+years if maintained IIRC.

collision · 30/04/2007 12:41

there are some lovely ones here in Bracknell and windsor but I dont know how much they cost.

what is your situation Expat? Where are you now and where would you go if you didnt stay here?

Are you planning on going back to work?

noseynoseynosey!!!

Fimbo · 30/04/2007 12:44

This is near me, kind of looks ok, certainly appealing in my latter years.

anorak · 30/04/2007 12:44

Another thing you have to consider is that a house or flat will go up in price but a caravan or static home will depreciate.

If you are happy with that then they can be very nice places to live.
