Would you live on one of those set up Caravan sites, or do you already?

Dh has been telling me this morning about a lady he works with is looking at living on one of these sites with her husband as he wants to retire early.
It costs £1500 per year for water, electric and gas and the caravans themselves cost £30k.
They plan to sell their home and pocket the cash to live on.

I've seen the site before and it is lovely and the Caravans are huge.

Thinking about it, it seems quite a good idea, sell the house, put the money in an off shore account

But the thought of living in a Caravan, hmmmmmmm.
Not sure I could really do it.

Could you?

Harman - yes its the park resorts one. Next time you're down there let me know and we can have a coffee - you can even pop round.

I would love to live in a park home.

DH works for one of the major manufacturers and their designs are lovely (but pricey).

MrsRecycle · 30/04/2007 19:02

Completely agree SaintG - whenever we're down there I really don't want to come back. It is a different way of life - no stress and lots of fresh air and cleaning only takes an hour!

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 19:11

Yours is made by the opposition MrsR. Locally known as Wibberly (or Wobberly) Caravans

MrsRecycle · 30/04/2007 19:15

Hahaha - I'm not suprised! We've had lots of things wrong with the van and they've been a nightmare. But finally (after writing to the MD) all is nearly fixed.

Is it ABI - our first was by them and we would definitely go for this make if we ever upgraded again.

UCM · 30/04/2007 19:18

Hi MrsRecycle, I have been lucky enough to get a sun holiday on there this year as they are not taking tents anymore I do remember you having a van there. My hol was only 15.00 though, so probably no use to you really.

Gorgeous site, didn't know that you could stay the whole year.

I can thoroughly recommend this place for anyone who doesn't want an arcade filled seafront, it's really beautiful there and the beach is to die for. On a good day you could be in the Maldives. Am learning to type with tips now Dior.

Blandmum · 30/04/2007 19:20

I know someone who used to do this with no problems. She now lives in an ordinary house but keeps her van for weekends.

The van was 'wintered' so it was easier to heat etc.

I think you have to be very organised and neat, so it wouldn't suit me!

MrsRecycle · 30/04/2007 19:24

I remember you UCM - how are you? I didn't know they weren't taking tents anymore - I'll check it out next time I'm down there. Those Sun deals are brilliant aren't they. And you are right such a lovely location. I was on the beach the other week and it was empty; I felt like I was abroad without the hassle of the plane journey. I even get a brilliant tan every year. When I go into the shops in Rye they ask where I've been on holiday and are shocked when I say Camber Sands! When are you next down there? I'll put it in my diary and we can arrange to meet up.

slalomsuki · 30/04/2007 19:25

We own a static for holidays with the kids and its fab.

Some of our neighbours on the site live there for 8 months of the year only leaving at the height of the summer to rent it out to holiday makers. The 6 weeks summer rent covers their site costs, gas, water and electricity and garden maintenance for the year and they can get it decorated by the renting company at the end of the period.
Should say its in France

MrsRecycle · 30/04/2007 19:26

Oh and it's only open from March until December so those that live there go away for two months - you can normally get a good all inclusive deal to winter climate for less than £1000 for the two of you.

SaintGeorge · 30/04/2007 19:29

No, Cosalt. All the others tend to mix their caravan and static manufacture. Cosalt have 2 sites and a specialist line for the statics.

Oh dear god, I'm starting to sound like DH.

slalomsuki · 30/04/2007 19:32

We have an IRM which is a French make, less Chinz and more modern. There are fab french ones from O'Hara which is a French company with an Irish name!

Celery · 30/04/2007 19:34

I'm on the Isle of Wight and for lots of local people this is an affordable option, both for older couples and young first time buyers. It's quite common here.

My friend lived in a static mobile home with her two young boys. In the summer, they loved it, spent most of the time outside, enjoying the holiday park's facilities. In the winter, it was hideous. That was the clinch. She said she would have stayed there if the weather was good all year round.

ScoobyDooooo · 30/04/2007 19:40

I used to live in this part of the country my friends parents run the cafe in front of the beach, they live in the massive house next door.

Stunning place spent many of my teenage years drunk partying on the camber sands beach

The beach is stunning with sand dunes & i always found it clean.

We lived by winchelsea beach, i went to school in rye it is a very lovely place.

I still have a few friends who live down there, need to visit really have been down with dp.

Are you on the pontins site MrsR or the one further down towards the end of camber?

UCM · 30/04/2007 19:49

9th of July.......

misdee · 30/04/2007 20:12

MrsR, that is a lovely caravana, as sparkly says i stayed in one exactly like that 18months ago at a haven site (not casiter, closer to gt yarmouth town) and it made me want one even more. would love to go in on sparklys + co's caravan once dh is well, the site they are on is open 9months a year full time, then weekends only during the winter.

I would consider a static caravan site when i am older and kdis have grown up and left home. I know there is a problem on one of the sites here as they want the name changed due to assisication with the name and people thinking they are gypsies, they cant get stuff delivered there, cant get credit etc even thouigh its a permanment site and not a holiday site.

MrsRecycle · 01/05/2007 09:22

Oh that's a shame UCM - I'll miss you again as will be back at home as the kids have school (unless you are there for 7 days).

Misdee - we stayed in Haven at Hastings and hated it - seem to cram a van on every available space. We actually visited the Park Resorts site (next to Pontins) on a very cold November day and fell in love with it. I know what you mean about the travellers aspect - mind you I'm descended from Romany's so once a pikey always a pikey .

SaintG - I like Cosalt's designs - seem to be a lot more space in the bedrooms.

Nbg · 02/05/2007 10:08

MrsR, I've sent you an email
