Hi all,
I am planning on relocating from Nigeria to the UK , possibly considering settling down in Telford.
i would appreciate honest and balanced experiences from people who have lived and worked in Telford in the past and currently;life in general, is it a multi- cultural environment; with good public schools and finding a decent job;places to avoid etc.

Thanks in advance

Depends what you're looking for in a location, really. Plus sides are reasonably priced housing, good transport links to Midlands towns for work, close proximity of great countryside, pretty multicultural (more so than the more rural parts of Shropshire), easy and copious shopping and a few really good schools.

Downsides are that the decent housing is expensive, and the new and cheaper housing stock is largely of the identikit brick box variety. The shopping, albeit copious, is mostly the dull high street and retail park type. The good schools are oversubscribed leaving places at the not great ones.

Telford is seen as a bit of a joke, an anomaly dropped in the heart of a rural county, but plenty of people who live there love it. I lived just outside for a year and although I visit regularly to see relatives, I wouldn't willingly live there again.

I'd give Wolverhampton and surrounding some consideration rather than Telford for some of the aforementioned reasons.

It's larger with more variety housing area/size/costs wise and is definitely multicultural. Probably more job prospects too, and in easy commute of Birmingham if needed.
