Evil monster ants are ruining my life! Help!

We have ants in the garden. Red ones. Red bitey ones. Red bitey ones that leave HUGE swellings on infant and adult flesh. I've lost count of the times (last one yesterday) when we've retreated from the garden with one of us in tears (me, yesterday, on my leg, still have huge massive red patch). It's got to the point where I don't want to go, or take my lovely girls, into our otherwise equally lovely garden. We've tried ant powder. We've tried boiling water. DP has searched bravely for the nest but can't find one. Can ANYONE suggest anything else - Agent Orange? - which might work? Do we have to move house?

Off out now to take kids to a place which might be less infested.

My sympathies - we seem to have to do regular ant battles here, but fortunately just the annoying kind... not the biting kind...

I think for the level of infestation you have, it'd be well worth calling out the council pest control - they'd have stronger stuff than you can get yourself in the shops, and would have more experience at hunting down the nest. From what I remember from the other thread, the council pest control are pretty reasonably priced and could well save you the cost of cycling through all the other shop bought ant control remedies...

Thought of pest control but didn't know if they did ants. It really is quite horrible. Will track down other thread too.

I would try Pest Control/Rentokil type people too - what a nightmare At least ours don't bite.

we had ants that got all in the kids bed and they were awful. You should put down nipon liquid overnight...they take this to the queen and it kills her. 5 days later put down powder to kill the workers. If you only put powder or boiling water down then it will only kill some of the workers...the queen will be safe below gound still breeding, so its a vicious circle. If this doesnt work ring the pest control from your local council....it costs about £30 unless you get working / child tax credit then you get a reduction. Mine cost £10 and they haven't been back so far touch wood! HTH

Pest control will come! Not till 17 August, but I don't care - would rather have a visitable garden then than never. Rang the council, explained they were the vicious bastard type of ant, and pest control will come round FOR FREE!!!

Thanks so much...xxxxxxxxxxxx
