should we move to oxford

We both (sort of) have job offers from Oxford employers and are wondering if we should turn our backs on London and take boys ( aged 7 and 8) to start fresh life. we have had enough of London street life and worry about teenage years. But we can't find any decent schools in Oxford! Can anyone help?

We can only afford state schools and quite fancy Cherwell as a secondary, but all of the primaries look pretty poor. Is there somewhere we have overlooked? Any advice gratefully received.

Kennington is actually a real village, rather than a suburb. Many people have lived there since childhood and it has a strong sense of community (lots of clubs, churches and an annual pantomime etc). The primary school is also quite good.

On the health issue - DH has a weak chest and we have found that he got far fewer chest colds once we moved to higher ground on the outskirts of the city.

'come on then tell us where is a nice, not damp, good for chest complaints, not so expensive, family friendly place to live???? but do want to know... '

Why not go for Cumnor Primary and then Matthew Arnold? Be warned that Cumnor is oversubscribed, however. We live a couple of miles from the catchment area and would not have had any chance of getting DD in there, were we going for a state school.

Waitrose deliver to central Oxford, you know

brezzo - I think many of the primaries in central Oxford are ok

It IS expensive to buy a house here though

I am ROFL at Cherwell and Matthew Arnold being desirable schools

and yes I agree with OldieMum re Kennington being a proper village
