What is the smallest field you could keep a pony in?

I am seriously thinking of turning part of our garden into a field for a Shetland.

it is small though.

That house seems like an utter bargain at £5m (but would cost a bit to maintain I spose)

Me too, dino - I had a pretend pony and used "canter" up and down the street - and on one occasion had my Saturday ride while the Grand National was on - that was so exciting!

dd1 would only have to cut across the field by our garden - then she would have to cross a lane - then there is Tessa S-S's paddock. The lane bit slightly worries me although I suppose she wouldn't be crossing it during school run times (the only time it is busy).

chickens you say. Yes they are a possibility. But we are sandwiched by chickens (we live on rural lane, one other house at teh bottom of lane, one other at the top - they both have chickens so eggs not a problem)

I cant think of anything worse that having to rattle aruond in a place that big (although dh disagrees )

I would first check w/Tessa Smellyhorse-Sweatypony.

If you kept the animal there, the girls would still get to know the basics of equine maintenance AND the pony would probably be pretty happy, too.

Also, too, you could then have a Shetland perhaps.

surely

Houses like that cost the same up here - is it me or is that mad? (Or has Dorset always been cheaper than nearer to London?)

Wags · 25/04/2007 11:03

Droooool over the last one Enid... and MIL could babysit. I am going to ring her and find out where it is!! Pipe dreams eh? We can't afford it and not the right time for us to move away either. Sigh.

Loshad · 25/04/2007 11:13

the other option enid is to totally stone and then deep woodchip the entire area - so ther is never any grass (and hopefully then never any laminitis), but also then never any mud. My poor welshie spends about 3/4 of his life in a space about the size of the one you have - he simply can't take the pace otherwise. You could then always rent a bit of grazing/share t s-s's paddock with her for small periods of the year.

first one horrid and no windows upstairs

kilmersdon one nice - lovely village. my friends parents are in kilmersdon manor which is BEAUTIFUL. not v convenient for your dh though is it?

sturm newton one not bad either, def worth a look

waddeston one shiteous wendy, sorry

Enid · 25/04/2007 11:27

What about a Fallabella Enid? pricey but more of a pet than a pony?

Enid · 25/04/2007 11:28

no i want something dd1 can ride

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 25/04/2007 11:32

Oh I know it's not nice, pph

I meant to say that, but the point is it's a not-nice big country house with 2 acres and it costs the same as the nice equivalent down there. Utter madness.

PrincessPeaHead · 25/04/2007 11:45

ooooooooh!

get a valuation enid. always interesting and you can find out useful things from the agent like who is buying what where etc etc

Enid · 25/04/2007 11:47

our hosue is tricky (apparently) as it is the location which is so charming ()

down lane with no neighbouars, no houses at all visible from front of house, yet near village

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 25/04/2007 11:48

doesn't sound tricky at all, sounds v nice

je ne comprends pas

The price of My Little Pony hasn't increased since 1988.
