15 year old DS1 thinks "took" is a word as in "I've took a photo". I've told him its taken but he's sure he can use took instead...
I can't think of an instance where took is a word?!! Anyone???

He took some advice--how's that?

I agree that it's hard to explain English grammar to children. I've forgotton lots of my grammar and I need to brush up on it. Can anyone recommend a good book?

Yes there are a few things like that. An american would say "I took a photo" to indicate a past action.
There was a thread about a similar uk/us difference some time ago. I think it was have and have got. An american would say "I have a car" or "I got a car" while an english person would say "I have got a car."

I'm sure ks can explain it better.

The Ladybird Book of Spelling and Grammar - £2.50 from Amazon (sorry can't do links) - is a good basic guide.

StickyNote - Thanks for that. Dh has just done an Amazon order. I'll put it on the wish list for the next one.

ks - Thanks for your post.
