London restaurant with really good veggie provision?

Can anyone recommend one?

My brother wants to book a family dinner for his 30th birthday this summer.

Needs to be able to cater for two vegetarians (him and my SIL, so it's important that it's really nice veggie stuff with plenty of options), four people who'll eat pretty much anything veggie or non-veggie, and my BIL who won't eat anything spicy or involving cream or cheese and who fundamentally would like a nice roast dinner.

And not be stratospherically expensive (it is a special occasion, so it doesn't have to be dirt cheap, but we don't want to be still paying it off at Christmas...).

AllBuggiedOut · 23/04/2007 23:08

Tas near London Bridge / bourough Market?
It is a very nice Turkish restaurant, with a good atmosphere.
Lovely veg food, your BIL can eat a nice plain charcoal grilled chop or piece of chicken, tasty, friendly service, not expensive.

Check out The Gate in Hammersmith and Lemonia in Primrose Hill..

I love Leon in Spiatlfields market - but food comes in cardboard boxes - not really celebration dinner?

controlfreaky2 · 23/04/2007 23:22

leon is brill..... but not really for a special night out imo.....

controlfreaky2 · 23/04/2007 23:23

ooops.... snap!

I second Tas at London Bridge - as veggie or meat orientated, and as spicy or plain as you want, really open and lively and reasonable price.

lemonaid · 23/04/2007 23:25

Thanks, aviatrix -- not sure if it's right for this but I have made a big mental note for my own purposes.

Anywhere reasonably central-ish, I think (say Zones 1 or 2). DH and I are the only ones who actually live in London and the others would be coming up for a day out and then dinner.

Umm... [dredges up momories of pre-DS days when I Had A Life]

Aubergine is stratospherically expensive (is that even still around?).

Burger King is dirt cheap.

I have no idea what price range they are thinking of. Not sure they do, TBH.

greek place near tate on riverside does veggie options and is fab!

Blu · 23/04/2007 23:27

The Real Greek Souvlaki?
It looks nice - great location.

Dimpled · 23/04/2007 23:27

there is a good italien behind the London eye - quite central (waterloo) for those getting back elsewhere.

lemonaid · 23/04/2007 23:28

Cross posted...

Tas is a good idea, I think I've even been to the London Bridge one once and the food was definitely good if I am remembering the right place.

And I'll look up the Gate [right neck of the woods for me if I'm being selfish and luring them over this side of London] and Lemonia.

RSJ, quite close to Waterloo - in the streets behind the Oxo Tower. More formal, perhaps, cosy, good menu with a couple of veg options, good wine list, v reasonable set menu or a la carte.

Hespera · 23/04/2007 23:33

Or even Roast - which I'm sure had good veggie options as well as lovely yummy stuff for the carnivores.

lemonaid · 24/04/2007 14:35

Thanks to all.
