Help - Does anyone know how to shut the bonnet of a Ford Fiesta?

We have just acquired FIL's 2003 Ford Fiesta Zetec. DH opened the bonnet & now can't get it shut properly. There's a black tab with a yellow arrow which releases the safety catch & apparently if you drop the bonnet from about a foot, it's supposed to move out of the way & the bonnet locks- but the tab just stays sticking out & if you pull it, you can open the bonnet.

Can anyone help, please?

Wasn't me, it was DH - and that's what I said - seeing that the only reason we've got it is for the kids & neither of them has passed their test yet!

Don't worry, MrsSpoon -it's not quite that bad - the innards are covered, it's just that the lid's not locked - I'm worried it might fly up if I tried to drive it.

I would say dropping it shoud release the catch (move out the way so it shuts)

Maybe some WD-40 sprayed on the catch would ease it.

We tried dropping it, but the tab that you pull doesn't move back like it's supposed to.
I'll have to ring my brother - he'll almost certainly know, but he's away atm.

Tell brother that some idiot has suggested putting WD-40 on the catch to ease it....see what he thinks.

I am sure it will be OK. Maybe its come out of alignment.

Did DH open the bonnet with a key?

The reason i ask is because we have a ford focus and just behind the ford badge is where you put the key to unlock it.

It could be that you need to re open the lock before it shuts properly!!

Worth a try.

IT'S SHUT!!!!!
I tried pushing it right in the middle with two hands that vimfuego suggested on the other fiesta thread & it stayed down for a second or two before popping up again.
Then I fifdled with the catch inside for the fifteenth time & then I dropped it - and it stayed down.

Glad to hear that you've solved the problem.

Sometimes the tab thing on mine doesnt go back under & you have to fiddle with it before dropping the bonnet.
