Dalek biscuits - are they legal?

I've got biscuit cutters in the shapes of daleks and Mr Men, also Bob the Builder and Winnie the Pooh, which I use quite often at home. However would there be a legal/copyright issue if I made them for selling at the school fete etc?

It'll be fine. I'm sure the pack the cutters came in didn't say "Biscuits must not be sold or thou shalt be struck down from on high..."

no they'll be fine, unless the head of bbc marketing is there haha

bambi06 · 20/04/2007 19:06

where did u get the dalek ones from as my kids would love them?

RTKangaMummy · 20/04/2007 19:10

No you can't

you will be EXTERMINATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXTERMINATE.....EXTERMINATE.....EXTERMINATE...

If I saw the Head of BBC marketing I would EXECUTE - EMERGENCY - TEMPORAL - SHIFT...

I got the dalek out of a packet of ready mix Dr Who biscuits which were pretty horrible made up and the kids wouldn't eat them, but the cutter is good for shortbread, although slightly faffy to get the shape out without the plunger bit breaking off. I put lines of little round choc chips on them for the round bits on the daleks. Think I got the packet in the novelty home baking bit of Waitrose.

Those silver sugar balls are good for daleks too. Used them on DS2's birthday cake this year (and nobody tried to exterminate me for breach of copyright)

Crotchety can I bother you to ask which shop you got the initial Dr Who biscuit pack from? Its just my dts would absolutely love anything shaped like a Dalek!

UnquietDad · 20/04/2007 22:07

The estate of Dalek originator Terry Nation is very protective of anything involving his creations, and his agent, Roger Hancock (Tony's brother - it's true) comes down like a ton of bricks on anybody illegally using the Dalek name, image or shape.

Having said that, I don't think he patrols school fetes.

Yet.

Yes Twoifbysea pretty certain it was Waitrose in a packet of ready to mix stuff - forget the name of the manufacturer though. It'll be by all the cake mixes. You only get one smallish plastic cutter but when I do it with homemade shortbread they spread out into rather satisfying decent sized bulgy daleks.

Technically speaking, yes, to sell them would be to breach copyright. The liklihood of being caught is minimal but there is always a slight chance I suppose.
