Just in the last few months and I think it must be because my sense of smell has changed benig pregnant but it is really yuck at the mo - am I crazy or normal - did anyone else find they couldn't stand the smell of certain people or things??

Oh he showers 2 times a day too so he isn't whiffy in RL to anyone else!!

I feel a bit mean writing this, please don't think I have a smelly DP - I don;t he is lovely!!

Twinkie, buy him his favourite body spray and put scented candels around the house, so it is all romantic. It may help your problem and he will think 'his boat has come in'

yes completely utterly normal, including that it's your partner you've become sensitive to!

weird isn't it?

bunnyrabbit · 22/07/2004 14:49

Yep I had this too.....

happycat · 22/07/2004 14:55

I was the same with tuna does that count. Not that dh is a tin of tuna you understand

Twinkie, I kow a woman who has had to move in with her mother, as the smell of her dp was making her physically sick in teh early days of her pregnancy. So yes, completely normal. Are you sure it's him, or is it something he is wearing (aftershave, deodorant, showergel?) My dh had to change his aftershave for 9 months for me

Twinkie · 22/07/2004 14:58

Don't think he has changed anything at all - well I buy everything so I would be aware of it!!

I can't even tell him he would be completely mortified and really really - mind you he has been eating loads of salad and stuff in prep for hols (he was a bit porky and couldn't fit into his suit) - could that be it - should I stick him back on Sausages and mash???

It wouldn't be that he's changed anything, jsut that you have beome sensitive to something he normally wears.

prufrock · 22/07/2004 15:02

Oops, clicked too soon. Try sniffing all his products in the bathroom and see if any make you feel queasy

Twinkie · 22/07/2004 15:07

Oooohhh that will be funny - will do it tonight and let you know tomorrow.

Thanks all.

(He is wondering why I won't go near him - my pregnancy book (that he read cover to cover) said I should be rampant by now!! )

Twinkie,

If it's any consolation - I couldn't stand the smell of any type of washing powder/fabric softener for the first 16 weeks of this pregnancy.

It was so bad that I couldn't go down the detergent aisle at sainsburys and putting on freshly laundered clothes rendered me sick as a dog.

I started using an unscented softener and washing powder which made me feel the least sick...

Strange things these pregnancy hormones... even now I cannot tolerate the smell of persil & comfort pure...
