Keep getting 0161 calls everyday

Hello I keep getting 0161 calls everyday I block the calls and then I get a different 0161 calling. They never leave a message . I tried to call one back to see who it was and then it was quiet, another number it was not possible to connect the call really odd and annoying . Anyone had this . One of the numbers was 01613543759. Thank you

Don’t call it back, scammers clone phone numbers and it could potentially cost you a fortune. Have you googled the number?

0161 is Manchester code if that helps. I am dealing with a debt agency on behalf of a relative that starts with that number.

I've had loads of these and not answered any of them; blocking the number each time. Then one day I did. Turns out (for me anyway) it's a company checking to see if they can save you money on your existing life policy (or some such stuff). I said 'no' and 'do not call me again'.

I keep getting these too. I answered last night and it was a bloke telling me I was owed £1003 from my 'finances' but was soooo vague about it. PPI company I reckon.

Don't answer then google the number for Who Calls Me. Scam companies buy random UK site numbers. I'm in Manchester and keep getting calls from Neath & Newcastle.

Recently I am also getting lots of 0161 numbers, plus 0151 and 0800. Maybe someone I've signed up with has just sold numbers on as a job lot!

What I find strange is that it was quite when I rang the 0161 number and then 2 minutes later the number rings me back .

I googled the 0161 ones and it's a "you've been in an accident" fishing for claims type thing - they switch up the numbers to get round being blocked.

Annoying for me as I actually live in Manchester so have to answer in case it's important!

But as others have said, after getting a suspicious call I usually google the number.

I had a chat with one of them because I had registered with the telephone preference service and shouldn't have been getting the calls. He told me that the 0161 phone numbers are part of a call centre that lots of PPI and insurance companies use, so you could get 3 calls from the same number but all different companies. People are more likely to answer a number that doesn't come up as withheld so they pay the call centre to use their outbound number as a mask.

Block ( buy a call blocker if a landline) and report on the ICO site. It actually does help to deal with these crooks.

I love these calls.

If it is a car crash, I usually start with "oh yeah, which one?" and then tell them that they should have all the details and should be able to confirm. Despite them trying to use social engineering tricks to try and get me to confirm details, I confirm nothing.

Once they realise that they are wasting their time, they hang up and I report the bastards through OfCom.

I get calls from almost identical number about 1130am every day, they always call twice. Ignore and block

If they say 'it's about your accident' I usually say 'oh dear - was it fatal?'. I once said 'I dont drive' and they asked if I knew anyone who might've had an accident.

I have these. PPI/accident. Usually ask if I was injured in the accident. I ask if that was the one involving the parked car I wasn't in! Luckily I don't know anyone in Manchester so now ignore/block.
The best was the other day I had a cold call from the telephone preference service to stop cold calls. I had a strong word about the irony of his call, and sent him on his way!

pretty sure that won't have been the genuine TPS - it'll have been a copycat, trying to get you to pay for theirs
