camera film?

i just bought a new camera , what is the diffrence between 100 film and 200 film im really confused the instructions say use 100 film and it can with one 100 film but can i use 200 in it ? (confussed smiley?)

100 film needs more light, Nikki - there are times when it's a bit dark, 100 film would need flash but 200 wouldn't.

But if it says use 100 that might mean it can't adjust to different film so you'll have to use 100.

Oh, the DX coding is what the camera reads to adjust to the kind of film (I think!). So it sounds as if you can use 400 but not 200. (400 will work well in very low light, although the detail is not as good in the pictures.)

Developing 100 film will cost the same as 200 or 400 but it is harder to find these days. You will maybe get it from a camera shop, probably not Boots or anywhere like that - Max Spielman or Klick might sell it too. You will find 400 film more easily, that usually costs a bit more to buy but not to develop, but in the summer it's worth looking for 100 films as pictures in the sunshine will be better with that.

I honestly don't know, Nikki! Doesn't the book mention 200 film at all? Is there a helpline phone number? (200 is the best film to use most of the time so it would be good if you could. But if not 400 is OK!)

I only ever use 200 film. We go to Jessops to get our photo's developed and you get a free film back and they always give us 200. It's a bit of an all rounder works best is most lights I think. And it doesn't cost any extra to get a 200 developed or a 400 I think, all prices are the same but it usually makes a difference if you have 24 or 36 picture film. they charge more for more prints.

Nikki, I just looked up this .

Don't know if it's the same as yours but it says:

"Film Speed Setting: ISO 25-3200 automatically set in full-stop increments by DX code."

So if yours is similar then 200 will be OK. (Maybe it just says 100 and 400 to show what it means?)

I think it means 100 - 400 (ie 100, 200 and 400)rather than 100 and 400 having looked on the cannon website at their Sureshot brochure.

200 is a good standard film. As has been said already, 100 gives best results in bright sunlight - from memmory, you can get 1000 too for dark conditions! Most commonly available are 100, 200 and 400 (why no 300??!) with 200 being the most usual. You certainly used to be able to get 100 from Boots though.

The film will say "DX" on the box if it's DX coded - most films are DX anyway.

I go for the film that does everything (Kodak ultra I think). The peed of the film costs the same no matter what (100, 400 etc). What changes the price is the number of exposures, the type (APS, 35mm) and if the film is black and white. We send our photos away and although not as quick as shops, it's a lot cheaper.
