Who has / prefers Grandad and who has / prefers Grandpa?? Or is the new name Grampy?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Ds has both, so no preference. Tbh, grandad is more common around here in Manchester

Sparklingbrook · 16/11/2017 12:37

We had Grandpa for one and Grandad for the other.

In card shops it's always more difficult to find 'Grandpa' cards.

ftw · 16/11/2017 12:41

YY, grandpa items in short supply.

Mehfruittea · 16/11/2017 12:45

We have Grandpa. Started off as Pampa until DS could say it.

Catalufa · 16/11/2017 12:46

We have one Grandpa and one Grandad.

Drogonssmile · 16/11/2017 12:54

We have a grandad, a grandpa and a gramps (step parent)

ninjapants · 16/11/2017 13:08

We have 'Papa' (might be a Scottish thing)

Rinceoir · 16/11/2017 13:13

One of each here too.

Fennijer · 16/11/2017 13:15

Interesting about lack of Grandpa cards as that is one of the things i check to see what is popular! I couldn't find any Grandpa cards at all!

err. Just to check. Are you going to come up with things saying
'Grandad's Little Soldier' in blue/brown/khaki
and
'Grandpa's Little Princess' in glittery pink ?
If so, please don't, and consider nice gender neutral clothing in a variety of colours instead.

Just wondering why a children's clothes designer needs to know this!

nobutreally · 16/11/2017 13:24

Yup, one of each here. But never buy items (most especially clothing) with either name on (Grandad might quite like it, I guarantee Grandpa would hate it!)

MilkTart · 16/11/2017 13:26

We have papa and grandpa. Also really struggle with cards! (Have the same issue with granny)

Fennijer · 16/11/2017 13:30

TeenTimesTwo - We offer a lot of gender neutral clothing, but unfortunately there is also a demand for the baby blue and baby pink T-shirts with sickly slogans. I simply want to know people's preference on Grandad or Grandpa

Oh OK then. We have a Grandpa. Smile If FIL were still alive he would have been Grandad though. Card retailers obviously think there are more Grandads.

Grimmfebruary · 16/11/2017 13:37

From the 2, grandad. But we say granda.

Kintan · 16/11/2017 14:26

We have one of each too!

confused123456 · 16/11/2017 14:28

Grandad. Only grandad

Jedbartletforpresident · 16/11/2017 14:43

I grew up with Granda on both sides. DH grew up with Grandad so our DC have one of each.

I much prefer Granda (it seems less formal to me) but I know it is less common outside of Ireland.

pinyata · 16/11/2017 15:05

We have Granda unsure if it’s a north of the border thing but Grandad always sounded very formal
