Something I found out about tipping today

Was in pizza express today and I asked the waitress if I tipped by card would it be taxed? She said yes it would and also she wouldn't get it for about a month as new rules have come in and everything now has to go through the head office. They (head office) also take a slice of the tip so by the time the waitress actually gets anything, its not anywhere near what you've given.

She also added that she isn't allowed to tell customers about this unless they specifically ask how tipping works.

Does anyone else think that this is terrible? I thought the tax was bad enough, but now head office are taking a slice too.

yes - have always left cash tips
unless service has been dire!

I never tip by card. Even if I pay by card I tip in cash.I never did trust that the waitress/waiter would get it. Sometimes I don't tip at all.

i never ever got cc tips.

always tip cash, always!

Cash tips are not good either if left on the table. I worked in a restaurant where this was usual and the restaurant owner kept the money to buy food.

Obviously I will now always tip with cash, but I suppose what I really can;t believe is that a big company like pizza express take a cut of the tips too, and they're all at it apparently.

When I was a waitress our manager used to take all our tips too so we all bought those tickle back kickers shoes, when we got a tip we used to stick them in our shoes & put them in our locker when we had a break. We had to or we wouldn't see a penny.

always pay by card and tip by cash, right into the hand of the staff member.

I always tip by cash, I often ask to have the "optional ten percent service charge" taken off the bill and tip that instead. Generally it's a way of ensuring customers don't tip because they think it's included but it normally goes to make up the wages.
