Is it cryptic?

So someone called Jack being in a box - anything to do with 24 or sports or anything.

Did they not get given the answers at the end of the quiz?

shouldbedoingsomethingelse · 07/04/2007 22:51

Could it be something to do with "jack in the box" the fast food chain

triplets · 07/04/2007 22:56

no, it wasn`t cryptic, thats all it said,
Another name for a Jack in the Box, answer must connect with sale!

hmm, see when i read the op i was thinking "yes i know that one. it's a... it's a...." but then my mind went blank. it was on the tip of tongue. googled it and found nothing, so maybe i am imagining that i know it.... have got dh on the case as well.

when is the next quiz night?

JackieNo · 07/04/2007 23:07

OK - this is bugging me too - it couldn't be 'hole' - as in whole(sale) - as in 'you don't know jack', so 'nothing' in a box is a hole? Could it? Bit tortuous though.

No, I really think it's too far fetched. I just have a weird mind.

maisym · 07/04/2007 23:09

A spring sale - a sale with a surprise???

triplets · 07/04/2007 23:10

Next Frid! Its in the pub and its a weekly quiz to raise money for a local church, they are always tricky1

OP posts:
triplets · 07/04/2007 23:11

No, Spring was an answer to something else.

tough one triplets!!

Winestein · 07/04/2007 23:13

The original jack in a boxes were actually captured slaves, rather horribly. Can't find an alternate name though.

maisym · 07/04/2007 23:18

could it have a local meaning - a local shop or food/drink

triplets · 07/04/2007 23:19

Yes I have just read that, they were put in boxes and on board ships children used to poke sticks in at them and make them jump up!

OP posts:
triplets · 07/04/2007 23:20

No, the whole thing was general, not based on local stuff.

OP posts:
maisym · 07/04/2007 23:32

I was thinking about this thread today when I was playing with my nephew and the jack in a box that we have.

So come on what was the answer? please tell us.

seeker · 22/04/2007 23:33

My Australian mother calls a jack in the box an "Upshepops" Irrelevant but vaguely interesting fact!
