Anyone sold a car on ebay?

I'm getting a bit worried about this. Our car is up for sale on there as I thought an auction would be easier and less hassle than say autotrader for example. I just wanted people to bid on our asking price and for there to be no "I'll give you this for it" or "would you accept x amount for cash?" etc. We've had lots of that already.

Anyway, we've currently got bankers draft and personal cheque as payment options (Ebay will already be taking a cut without using PayPal as well!) with the stipulation that the car won't be released until funds have cleared.

DH (and now I am) is worried someone will turn up after winning it and expect us to accept a cheque/draft on the day, or cash. I'm intending to have email contact to make arrangements prior to payment and pick up, and would have no worries about telling someone they can't have the car until we have the money, but what do you guys think about cash? We ahve no way of telling if the notes they are giving us are genuine do we? Would any of you take the risk? It is thousands, so I don't think I want to, but don't know if that's the norm

Thanks

tons!

Just make clear in the advert that you will NOT be releasing the car untill the funds are cleared either that or do what we do, only take cash on collection we have never had any problems and like i say all our cars and several friends ones have gone on ebay.

If you are that worried I would withdraw it (can you do that?) and take it to a car auction instead.

DH just sold his car at our local auction, got more for it than he expetced, and no hassle whatsoever.

I think we can still withdraw it as there are watchers but no bids yet. But there's less than 2 days left now, will have to check the rules.

We have brought and sold many cars on ebay so far we have used paypal to pay once, the rest have all been cash on collection and we have had no problems.

sold our car on e-bay and got an e-mail saying he couldnt get there till w/end (this was tuesday) so fine thats ok
weekend came and went with no sign and no reply to e-mails
then said his mum was ill so it would be the next weekend (tax was going to run out on that friday) no show again so we had to put the car on my parents drive and it sat there for 2 mths

and the guy that won it only put a bid in at the last minute and had asked no questions

I sold mine through ebay - guy was a bit of a t*t to be honest but everything went ok eventually. What I did and quite a lot of others seem to do too is insist on the buyer paying a deposit through paypal within 24 hours of the auction ending, then its more likely that they will turn up to actually buy the car... Ours was cash on collection too, made sure that I printed out a reciept saying that the car was sold as seen, and that from that date all responsibilties for the car were his. Also made sure that I got the DVLA thing sent off asap just in case.
