Got married on Friday, and we´re now staying in a lovely hotel in Madeira. The weather´s perfect, and our room´s gorgeous.

However, within a day of arriving, I developed tonsilitis and spent most of yesterday in bed. I´m slightly better now, but dh was kept up all night by my snoring (only because I´m ill. Honest!) and he´s now in the room having a sleep. He also confessed to me earlier that he´s having a crap time as our 8 month old is staying with his grandparents and he really misses him. Obviously I miss him too, but this is the last holiday we´ll get for a long time, so I´m trying not to dwell.

Plus sides - the hotel has lots to do for the less than healthy (internet access for example) and I can´t eat so I´ll hopefully lose a few pounds!

Just wondered if anyone would like to share their crap honeymoon/holiday stories.

I'm not sure you should spend your honeymoon on MN...aren't you with someon else?!!

I developed a chest infection 2 days after my wedding. We were in cornwall for our honeymoon and I was so ill that I couldn't even leave the extrememly expensive house we'd rented. As we got married just after Christmas, the highlight of our honeymoon was supposed to be a fabulous New Year's Eve. I spent the night in fleecy pyjamas, dosed up on lemsip, antibiotics and nurofen and went to sleep at about 8.30pm.

You have my utmost sympathy.

God, if I had to spend my honeymoon surgically attached to someone who was asleep I'd be divorced by the time I came back!

Come on, NS, she's having a pants time already!

Hope you feel better soon Moonstone.

I was really poorly on my wedding day and honeymoon but it didn't spoil the day. I'd had an awful throat infection (I have one now too, hmm and had been on antibiotics. By the end of the day, I could hardly talk but I was on such a high it didn't matter. I also 'came on' on the day too! We went on honeymoon and I had to seek out a gp for another batch of stronger antib's but we still had a great time. Got married the week before Christmas and was away for 2 weeks.

It's probably because of all the stress and planning etc beforehand and now you can relax, it all comes out. Happens alot when people go on holiday I think.

My DH comes from Malaysia and we were married in Ireland. The only member of his family who could attend the wedding was his brother, so we decided to honeymoon in Malaysia so I could meet the rest of his family. The plan was to stay with his parents for a week and then tour around to see a bit of Malaysia. The touring around bit was fine, but dh refused (and still refuses to this day) to have sex in his parents' house. Not at all what I expected the first week of my honeymoon to be.

My friend's parents had turkey sandwiches at their wedding reception and spent their honeymoon enduring food poisoning!

I also had a terrible bad throat on my wedding day and spent the our special night in hotel before flying to honeymoon asleep in bed not enjoying the posh restaurant meal and champagne as planned. DH had room service and watched TV. Not what he had in mind either lol. I was so wiped out on the honeymoon it was days before we even consummated our marriage . The day was fab as I got half way through the meal and told myself this was a once in a life time thing and drank lots of booze to dull the pain and danced my socks (well stockings technically) off and loved it but the next day I had a temp of 39 degrees and had to sleep.
Hope things improve Moonstone .

My sister stubbed her toe on a suitcase at the airport en route to the Dominican Republic. Resulted in toe-nail removal, and her not being allowed in the pool. Am sure other activities not greatly curtailed though.
