i am hoping to have a few days abroad soon but my passport is still in my old name, my name changed years ago and back then i was told by passport agency it was ok as long as i booked the ticket in my old name so it matched my passport.

As my trip was cancelled and i didnt think i would have the opportunity to go abroad for a long time i didnt want to waste money changing a passsport i may not use, although it would have been a lot cheaper to change it then than now!

Is it still the same as i was told then or do i need to get it changed and how long is it likely to take?

although i suppose it may be a good idea getting it done anyway as i keep getting asked for photographic ID and don't drive!

As long as you book the holiday in the same name as your passport its fine. Not sure about insurance though, I guess it would have to be in the same name as passport and holiday ticket.

thanks kid although it doesnt seem right booking tickets in a name that is no longer mine and i will be taking cash cards etc in my new name

When I got married, I travelled in my maiden name for 5 years. I only changed it when my passport expired.
Did you get married or is there another reason why you have a different name?

well i got married but then also changed my first name by deedpoll. Another potnetial problem is that although my deed poll was recognised by dss etc, one bank was reluctant to accept it. I have since found out that the online company that i used no longer seems to exist and i think maybe they were dodgy.

also apparently you have to have the deed poll witnessed by someone whos unrelated to you and at a different address and all it said when i did mine was that it had to be someone over 18.

So i may need to change it all over again and can't afford to do that and pay for passport

and i suppose if i have to another deed poll then it will a new date on so it will look like i changed my name later than i did and my childrens birth certficates and the forms i filled in to get their passports obviously had my new name!
