Anyone from Sheffield? Advice wanted!

Hello, we are considering relocating from London to Sheffield, mainly 'cause we can't afford a family home down here! Would love advice from any Sheffield types about where's the best part to live.

We are happy to be out in the 'burbs as long as there's reasonable transport to the city centre. Most important things are good local community, green space, nice pubs, a decent curry house, and good primary schools for DS when he's old enough! Oh, and not costing an absolute fortune to buy. Any help much appreciated...

I asked this recently but I can't find the thread. There are some answers here though.

But now we've decided against Sheffield because of the schools apartheid that seems to exist there: not the primary schools (there are some really good ones - my sis used to teach in them), but the secondaries. The good schools are good, but the bad ones are really really bad. Plus the house prices are higher than you'd think from looking at rightmove etc because of the weird bidding system.

we're off to NE Debyshire instead - because it's still easy to get to sheffield but cheaper.

Bump... we are now looking specifically at S6/Hillsborough as being a bit cheaper than S10/S11, if anyone has local knowledge they can share?

Sheffield IMO is a fantastic place to live but v divided socially and economically. Hillsborough, like the majority of that side of the city has quite a traditional northern feel to it IYSWIM!. The south west triangle has a more middle class demographic ... it depends what you want.
