I wish.... I don't even have a bedroom for just me and dp (13 month ds is still in our room)

sassy · 30/03/2007 08:04

No, and I would like one. Just a corner would do...in the next house, we should have a dining room which I intend to adopt as 'my' room - a comfy chair, reading/sewing light, stereo and no TV etc.
(Just mentioned this to dh and he said 'you have a room now - the kitchen!' (Grrrr )

PippiLangstrump · 30/03/2007 08:29

I will if we get the place we saw!! bliss. I can tell you how it will be: one wall covered with books. a fireplace and two super-cosy armchairs that belonged to my garnparents to snuggle in. oh and a desk with a comp looking out onto the park!!
please pray for me!

oh, and the kitchen of corse!

noddyholder · 30/03/2007 08:30

When/if we move dp and I both want rooms of our own to do 'stuff'!His will hopefully be outside though as the drums are getting a bit much

I dream of one.

It will have walls of books, an armchair (or possibly a chaise longue), and a desk with a pot of pencils and a vase of flowers on looking out over the garden.

'In the next house' DH wants the outbuildings as a workshop / office / garage, so I reckon I have a strong claim to either the smallest bedroom or the attic.

Oh, and Franny has one .

warthog · 30/03/2007 09:04

same as you jelley! we also share with our 13 mo.

i'd LOVE to have my own space...

faeriemum · 30/03/2007 09:33

i have one
its got my sewing machine, a tv, stereo and some jewellery making bits in there......is meant to be a store room...but as i have a loft for storing i thought i'd be greedy and nab it for myself
its light blue with lots of artwork created by ds

lizziemun · 30/03/2007 09:41

No, but i would love one.

It would have big windows for lots of light, lots of storage space a desk big enough for my sewing machine and space for cutting out.

I get fed up with with having to get things out to do after dd has gone to bed, to then have to put it all away before i go to bed.

I have been asking DH to convert the garage for me since we moved in 2002, now because i am pregnant again he has decided to do as i need his office (4th bedroom) as a spare room, he has been using it since we moved in

expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 09:42

No. I never have.

fishie · 30/03/2007 10:00

i've got one, it is painted dark dusky pink and has all my books, sewing machine and a lovely table that my parents got me from the gladstone library in wales. it gets the evening sun.

dp has a little room too but with revolting stripy vinyl wallpaper becuase we have run out of money to finish doing up house.

nailpolish · 30/03/2007 10:14

i am in love with MrsB's garden room with its pots of pencils...

i would like a separate building completely
at the bottom of the garden

When dp and I first moved in together I did. We had a 2-bedroomed flat with a huge lounge so we used the bedrooms as a study each (we were both writing PhDs and working from home so it made sense). It was bliss! Then we shared the big open plan lounge / kitchen area almost as a bedsit where we ate, played music, slept, watched t.v. etc.

When dd came I'd finished my PhD, went to work only part-time so didn't need my room and we turned it into dd's room. I mourned that room for about 2 years.

So when we moved although there's not enough space for me to have a room now we use our bedroom as dp's study and I mostly have the lounge to myself. I have a very cosy corner by the window with all my things around me so it'll do for now!

deaconblue · 30/03/2007 10:35

WE will have a spare study at our new house which we want to turn into a kind of reading room. sounds poncey but I have tonnes of books which get on dh's nerves so will put bookcases, desk, comfy chair in it. I expect it'll become my room by default as he hardly ever reads and will have his own office. Am really looking forward to it, although now you mention it, I wonder how much use it would get

littleEasterlapin · 30/03/2007 10:36

All I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air.
With one enormous chair; Oh wouldn't it be loverly?
Lots of choc'late for me to eat; Lots of coal makin' lots of heat.
Warm face, warm 'ands, warm feet, Oh wouldn't it be loverly?
Oh, so loverly sittin' abso-bloomin'-lutely still!
I would never budge 'til Spring crept over my window sill.
Someone's head restin' on my knee; Warm and tender as he can be,
Who takes good care of me; Oh wouldn't it be loverly?
Loverly, loverly, loverly, loverly.

If only

fennel · 30/03/2007 10:39

I used to, now I share it with DP - but it's a lovely room, we call it the Library (delusions of grandeur here) and it is lined with books, has 2 arched gothic windows, and a big sofa. and 2 computer desks and equipment which rather spoil the effect but we need them for work.

sometimes I want to move Dp out and keep it just as my room but he's a bit resistant. We use it a lot as we both work from home quite a bit.

Hassled · 30/03/2007 10:40

There's a book by Virginia Woolf called "A Room of One's Own" in which she says that "a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction" - but I think the fiction bit is more about independent thought etc. So there you go - a bit of early feminism for a Friday morning

ComeOVeneer · 30/03/2007 10:41

I don't, unless you count the utility room as I am the only one that goes in there. I suppose you could call my walk in wardrobe my room too. Dh has his study and the kids have a playroom so our living room is exclusively an adult space.

nailpolish · 30/03/2007 10:47

i LONG for a playroom to enable the living room to be adults only

ComeOVeneer · 30/03/2007 11:00

I know, it is bliss, not a peice of plastic tat in sight

lucykate · 30/03/2007 11:14

i do, we've split a bedroom and made ds's room smaller and a study for me. it's where i work from, and only finished decorating it at the weekend, carpet was fitted monday. its got a 'L' shaped desk with the computer and my sewing machine on, shelves with all my books on, lots of boxes full of thread, fabric, buttons, beads etc. need to put up a big noticeboard at the weekend.

dh has a wooden cabin in the garden as his studio. it all sounds very idylic doesn't it, but we've moved to a bigger house. prior to this dh rented studio space and it cost more than our mortgage once you'd included business rates. it was more economical to buy a bigger house and both of us work from home.

Radley · 30/03/2007 11:28

No, but I wish I did.

It would a very girly room if i could though.

Four poster bed, white wool carpet, pale lilac walls, very big ornate mirror over a white dressing table which has fresh lillies on it.

Very comfy chaise longue in front of a large window and a full wall bookcase filled with all my favourite authors books. No television, but a hifi discretly hidden away in a large french baroque armoire. Oh and I'd wanted the Emperor Swarovski crystal chandelier.

Can you tell I've thought of this
