My bosses wife died on Friday.

I came into work yesterday on my day off, had to bring in DD2 (15 months old) as I wanted to show him that we're supporting him, that he doesn't have to think about the office and to send email to clients to tell them the news so he didn't have to face doing that.
The account executive, who I knew was thinking of leaving and also wanted to take a holiday, comes in, over an hour late and informs me that she is going to Nigeria on Wednesday, so Tuesday (today) would be our last day together.

I work 3 days a week, she works 5. The only other member of staff works 1 day a week from home.

I can't believe she can do this. She is employed as a freelancer, has been here over a year and my boss has given her so much leaway over things in that time.

I had to leave at 12 yeasterday, far later than I should have done with my DD2's, but anyway.
So I said 'look just promise me you'll be in Tuesday so you can hand over to me and explain what is what on the stuff you've been working on etc'

It's 10.30, no sign of her
Feel sick with anger / worry etc.

How could she??????????

People are crap.

GameGirly · 27/03/2007 10:34

That's awful, TeeCee. Some people really don't give a toss, do they? Selfish bitch.

Hope it works out for you.

hunkermunker · 27/03/2007 10:35

I'm so sorry, TC - I'm glad that your boss has you so he doesn't have to worry about the office, but I'm so sorry

As for the freelancer - I really hope she gets in very soon.

Do you have a mobile number for her?

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 27/03/2007 10:37

tc - that sucks.

i hope she turns up soon

TeeCee · 27/03/2007 10:47

I just rang and her voicemail came straight on.
Feel sick and panicky and angry and ....

hunkermunker · 27/03/2007 12:24

Any sign of her, TC?

sanae · 27/03/2007 12:49

you are right to be so upset and angry. did she make contact?

TeeCee · 27/03/2007 13:11

She got in at 11.45. At least she came in. She's barely spoken and hasn't actually made any contact with my boss to let him know today is her last day!
As it happens I did send a text yesterday so he knew but told him not to owrry etc. But she still owes it to him out of respect to make some effort to tell him herself.
For my part - thank god she's here. I didn't even know her password to access her PC till 10 minurtes ago!

She's still a bitch though!

how difficult to have to deal with this & sort everything out - some people just don't think. Hope your boss knows how much effort you are putting in here to keep things going.

nailpolish · 27/03/2007 13:15

just forget about her TC

what she does is up to her, im sure the last thing your boss will be doing is caring whether she comes or goes

you certainly shouldnt be stressing unecessarily over her, you need to stay stress free

ScottishThistle · 27/03/2007 13:20

TeeCee, sad to hear your Bosses wife died.

Try not to let the selfish one stress you out & I hope you get a much nicer colleague very soon!

TeeCee · 27/03/2007 13:20

You know what, I hope my boss doesn't know i'm putting in extra effort. I want his office to be the last thing on his mind. Which is why I'm so upset she picked this week to go on holiday and then not come back. She could have waited for him to bury his wife fgs. The man has given her so much slack and been kind and patient with her in the past and this is how she repays him

Anyway, at least I get my handover notes now, which is good for me and I'm less stressed, for now!

We've just started to get busy at work as well! God help me!

She sounds terrible. Will you tell her what you think of her? I wonder what she'd say as justification.

DarrellRivers · 27/03/2007 13:28

There is usually some kind of karmic justice in the end and what comes around , goes around.
Your rubbish member of staff will get what she deserves in the end and I hope your boss just forgets all about work for as long as he needs to.

LilRedWG · 27/03/2007 13:28

She sounds awful - you are totaly justified in being angry. Your boss is very lucky to have such a kind and loyal employee in you.

TeeCee · 27/03/2007 13:34

She said to me 'I know you're cross' and I said 'cross isn't really the word I'd use to express how I feel right now'. She said 'I know it's bad timing' and I just laughed and siad'yeah you could say that, it's the worst time ever to decide to suddenly go on holiday, but there you go. All I wanted to do was to protect Richard and make sure the office was the last thing on his mind and now the oppostire will have happened, that poor man'. She looked a bit shamefaced and turned back to her emails.

I just need her to leqave me with a clear slate so I can start afresh with her workload etc as of tomorrow.

What goes around comes around and I hope she gets lots of turbulance on th flight, sit's next to someone who chews her ear off the whole way and has a miserable holiday and spends ages trying to find another job when she gets back.

hunkermunker · 27/03/2007 16:33

He's lucky to have you - and she's a bitch, but I believe in karma for things like this!

anorak · 27/03/2007 16:37

If I were your boss TeeCee, what you've done would give me the positive I would need to not destroy my faith in human nature because of her.

wanderingstar · 27/03/2007 17:43

Incredibly selfish !

Maybe she'll be seated next to a stinky person on the flight, or someone who drinks too much and gets leery...

...and then has a rotten holiday.

Draw a big line under her but not until you've stuck some pins in a wax effigy.

littleEasterlapin · 27/03/2007 17:47

TeeCee, she is a selfish cow and karma will come back to bite her on her self-obsessed arse.

LOVING the politeness of your thread title, bless!

warthog · 27/03/2007 18:51

ok, on the face of it she shounds inconsiderate and selfish, but you don't know what's happening in her life. maybe she has a terminal illness and she was getting treatment so came in late. far-fetched, but you just don't know. best not to judge too much. you've made your feelings clear anyway.

your boss is very very lucky to have you though.

warthog · 27/03/2007 18:51

ooo sounds! and i don't even have a g&t
