Do you hide easter eggs?

When I was a kid my parents used to hide my eggs and my sisters (the ones that come in cardboard boxes) around the house. We had to find them on Easter Sunday. But we ended up with the same number of eggs in total so I guess my mum supervised.

My DH family used this system all the cousins had to hunt in the garden where lots of small folil wrapped eggs would be hidden. The best finder/oldest child found the most eggs and got to keep them for himself. Survival of the fittest.

What did you do as kids and what do you do for your children?

Last year i di clues around the house leading to the big egg.
This year i would like to get some small eggs and hide them around the garden/house. I will put one each in each place so no-one gets less or more than the others!

i hide them..........from dp!
i have bought 6 and there are now 3..i dont hide them well enough!

Oh and when i was little we never had egg hunts.

oliveoil · 26/03/2007 15:24

last year I left a trail of small eggs - mini egg size - down the stairs from their bedrooms to the playroom and kitchen

then at the end of the trail was a pile of eggs from family etc

egg overload!

then I let them have some on the day, stash the rest and when they have forgotten about them, take them into work for people to eat

I never have, but after reading this, it sounds like fun and I may do it this year.

Do they not tear the house to pieces looking for them though?

I hide them very badly so they don't have to do much ransacking

on a chair
on top of their toy box

etc etc

they are only 4 and 2 though so last year it was mainly dd1 doing the finding with dd2 trailing behind

Lasvegas · 26/03/2007 15:28

cadbury yes especially boys, hence we do it in the garden - even better grand parents garden. The youngest child gets an adult helper.

I will when dd is older. Our parents always did a treasure hunt for us either with eggs found with each clue or a treasure trove at the end.... mmmm....

my trick was forgetting to buy any and then popping out for anewspaper and bumping into the easter bunny on the way

I'm sure this was very convincing

I do an egg hunt, they are sweet they think it's the Easter bunny.

Last year I wrote clues as DS1 good enough reader by then (was 6). This yr DD is ace reader too so may do more cryptic clues. Hide them in simple places tho, in ironing basket, in a shoe, on a windowsill. Hide 3 x Cadbury mini eggs, about 8-9 each (not too bad on Easter Sunday) plus a big egg to find each at the end.

Nothing like this as a child btw. Sometimes I suspect I am living out my childhood fantasies through my DCs (complex and elaborately themed parties with bags and food that go, special stuff at Christmas eg snowy footprints, etc etc)
