I'm getting a bit bogged down by the God threads that have appeared and emotionally distraught by some of the abuse threads, so wanted to create a chill-out thread!

I've had a very tiring day, looking after brother and dd, sorting out builders, organising charity do, placating neighbours re. builders, doing 5 loads of washing after finally being able to plumb in washing machine after 7 weeks due to bloody builders again! Now dh has gone off to play squash, have put dd and db to bed and have just opened a nice cold can of lager! Ahhh, bliss!

I think Mumsnet should have a chill-out zone for all those of us who do not want to get embroiled in a serious discussion, but just need to small talk and CHILL! So c'mon then, give us your best chill-out moments and some totally not serious small talk!

Had the most enjoyable afternoon having a pub lunch in the beer garden of our local pub with my friend and our 18 month boys. They were both dressed in their England football kits and looked adorable. Whilst sitting there a group of young lads and their girlfriends came over and commented on how cute they looked and gave them a football to play with. They were playing with them and keeping them entertained for about an hour. Everyone really enjoyed themselves in spite of England losing today.

Always remember to put confetti (or those little paper circles from a hole punch) into the airvents of your partner's car before turning the fan on full blast.

He he he!

winnie1 · 22/06/2002 12:52

Tried to get to Avebury last night to have a chilling mid summers day-evening with the children and dh and couldn't because the police had blocked off the entire village!!!!!! (Urgh!!!) So felt extremely unchilled for a while ... returned home and consumed lots of green & blacks chocolate and a very delicious bottle of red in in the comfort of our conservatory, windows and doors open listening to the rain!!!!!

jodee · 22/06/2002 15:20

Who was it waaay back down this thread who said they didn't like chocolate - are you mad????

I can't believe I got up yesterday at 5.45am so I could stand on a packed to the rafters train 2 hours earlier than normal to get to work to watch a game of football! Loved it though - and I wanted to give David Seaman a BIG HUG afterwards, poor lamb!

SofiaAmes · 22/06/2002 17:18

SoupDragon, that is soooo excellent. Problem is my dh's car is so filthy that I'm not sure he would even noticed if there was confetti added to it. One of the major reasons I bought my own.

SofiaAmes · 22/06/2002 21:07

life could be worse...i've got rotten allergies and am sneezing lots, unfortunately being 6 mo. pregnant, every time i sneeze, i piss myself....just thought i'd share that with all of you.

oxocube · 22/06/2002 21:14

LOL

SoupDragon · 23/06/2002 10:13

SofiaAmes, he'd notice it when it all came shooting out of the airvents when he starts the car!

And thanks for sharing your sneezing problems - a great incentive to do those pelvic floor exercises we've all been neglecting.

Alltogether now, SQUEEZE!

jenny2998 · 23/06/2002 22:54

I am squeezing as we speak...

CAM · 24/06/2002 11:11

Winnie, had the police closed the village to prevent a gathering taking place for the summer solstice? I lived in Wiltshire near there as a child and young teenager because my father was based at RAF Lyneham. They now live in Devizes, whereabouts are you living?

winnie1 · 24/06/2002 11:37

Cam, yes, the police were keeping visitors out of Avebury to prevent the Stonehenge gathering reforming there... I am wondering why people still insist on walking up Silbury Hill when there is a huge hole through the middle. I do live in Wiltshire but hardly know Devizes at all (despite frequent trips to Avebury,Marlborough and Savernake Forest!)

Enid · 24/06/2002 14:06

We took dd to Silbury Hill on new years day this year, she walked all the way to the top (she was just 2) and we were really proud.

Then I felt really guilty when she staggered about like John Wayne for the next three days.

winnie1 · 24/06/2002 14:26

Enid, we too have walked up Silbury Hill. In fact Avebury, Silbury Hill and West Kennet longburrow had rather a lot to do with our sons conception and birth (but that is another story ) As an ancient site that has been widely reported to be unsafe (and could possibly collapse from people traipsing over it)it seems rather silly that people still walk up it. Just a personal gripe from someone who has very mixed feelings about how the site is managed Part of me wonders if such sites should be left to deteriorate as would happen without intervention and the other knows that Avebury and Stonehenge have been more or less resurrected from felled stones and aren't therefore exactly what we believe them to be. The thought of Silbury hill not being there would be too awful to contemplate. On the subject of this thread the entire area is a wonderful place to chill any time of the year (it is indeed a particularly wonderful place to be in the snow!) police permitting...

CAM · 24/06/2002 20:26

That's because Devizes is a) boring and b) stuck out on a separate road than the lovely Marlborough, etc. However, I did go to see some fantastic bands in Devizes Corn Exchange when I was a teenager, ones which became huge later and now are remembered nostagically like T-Rex!

Enid · 24/06/2002 20:40

Sorry winnie - I am going mad. I didn't actually mean Silbury Hill - it was another 'normal' walkers hill nearby. We stopped to look at Silbury Hill - I didn't even realise anyone was allowed to walk up it at all.

But dd is a veteran of such things, she scales Glastonbury tor on a regular basis, while I puff and blow behind

Mopsy · 25/06/2002 07:34

Winnie - your son's conception and birth? We should be told!

winnie1 · 25/06/2002 08:23

Mopsy, I really can't go there here
Enid, Glastonbury tor brings back memories of my early stages of pregnancy and sitting at the top listening to this amazing guy playing the diggery-doo (which I have no idea how to spell) and yes, the children run, skip and jump there way up the hill and we huff and puff!!!!
Cam, t-rex!!!! Lucky you!!!

leander · 25/06/2002 08:49

I'm so proud i could burst, Ds is sitting up all on his own now, sorry just had to tell someone!

WideWebWitch · 25/06/2002 08:53

Oh CAM, agree, lucky you, having seen T-Rex! I grew up in Wiltshire too and remember going to Stonehenge festival, ah, nostalgia...

oxocube · 25/06/2002 10:33

leander: CONGRATULATIONS !

Rhubarb · 25/06/2002 14:12

I just bought a new top for dd and within five minutes she spilled tomato sauce down it - why do kids do that? It's a white top and now it has horrible sauce stains on it that probably won't come out in the first wash - grrrr!

PamT · 25/06/2002 14:19

Rhubarb, my kids are such disgustingly filthy creatures that I decided not to do white some time ago. The boys have to have new shirts for school every year and even spend several months in stained ones because they spill and smear down them at every opportunity. I think I ought to invest in some bibs, but it wouldn't do much for a 9 year old's street cred I suppose.

Rhubarb · 25/06/2002 14:20

Oh I dunno - could be a new fashion craze soon!

winnie and www, I'm a bit embarrassed to remember that I had a mauve (not purple, note but "mauve" satin jacket, like Marc Bolan and glitter in my hair, etc. www I wonder if I've met you in a previous incarnation although you're bound to be much younger than me.
