I'm getting a bit bogged down by the God threads that have appeared and emotionally distraught by some of the abuse threads, so wanted to create a chill-out thread!

I've had a very tiring day, looking after brother and dd, sorting out builders, organising charity do, placating neighbours re. builders, doing 5 loads of washing after finally being able to plumb in washing machine after 7 weeks due to bloody builders again! Now dh has gone off to play squash, have put dd and db to bed and have just opened a nice cold can of lager! Ahhh, bliss!

I think Mumsnet should have a chill-out zone for all those of us who do not want to get embroiled in a serious discussion, but just need to small talk and CHILL! So c'mon then, give us your best chill-out moments and some totally not serious small talk!

Sobernow, yummy! Except the coffee ones; I HATE those. Come to think of it, maybe thats what druids chat about - their favourite Revel

honeybunny · 20/06/2002 13:56

PamT-read somewhere that if you dont get a letter within 2weeks of the offence, you get away with it! Good luck, speed cameras are the worst.

Still waiting for a real chill out time. No dh around to share the child care with lately, so once they're in bed so am I!

Does digging a new flower border, (under the command of a 19mo old ....dig, dig, dig, MA!) count as chilling out? No, didn't think so!!

ariel · 20/06/2002 14:17

How about some mindless babble, im i the only female here not to like chocolate, i hate it, i used to be a chocaholic but for some reason went of it about 2 years ago, maybe i should fixate(sp???) my attention on something else, perhaps a nice bottle of white wine or two. And as for my good moment recently, well that has to be my ds who has just begun to smile, boy dont you just melt when your baby gives you a great big gummy smile!!!!!

Rhubarb · 20/06/2002 14:42

Tinker - the abuse thread was about that 3 yr old abused by her babysitter and then the 9 yr old sort of abused by her friend - horrible readings!

I don't like chocolate much either, but I do like crisps, peanuts and pork scratchings!!!

My dd hugged me today then put her hands on my cheeks, said "My friend!" and kissed me! Awww! Now whilst she's in bed and db is watching tv I'm going to read a book, chill out for a while.

Is it just me that thinks going to the hairdressers is absolute hell that you shouldn't have to pay for?! I hate going so much I try to cut my own hair, one day I'll become good at it

My one luxury is visiting my hairdresser, its heaven haveing someone look after you, and its also nice not to be "mum" for an hour.

Enid · 20/06/2002 15:52

Chilling out with dd, playing around on the computer, she wanted to see the 'cross faces'!

oxocube · 20/06/2002 16:01

Not chocolate but love "kiddycrap" ie, cola bottles, jellytots etc. Also have late night pizza cravings (NOT p.g!!!!),crisps, nuts, olives, anything salty in fact

AtkinsR · 20/06/2002 16:14

Can't survive without chocolate (am confirmed chocoholic - even licked the choc off a penguin the other day and threw the biscuit away cos I don't like them).

I chill out at work - fell asleep during a phone call this afternoon! Spent rest of the time adding my pearls of wisdom on Mumsnet.

Love it when dd rings me just to tell me she loves me (then feel guilty for having knicked her chocolate the night before!)

Rhubarb - thanks. I thought you meant there was a thread for people to just hurl abuse at each other !!!

XAusted · 20/06/2002 20:38

I recommend wild flower meadows for chill outs. Left ds with dh yesterday for a couple of hours and dd was at school. So off I went to a nearby reservoir with a pretty meadow beside it. Had a little walk then lay down in the long grass among the flowers and listened to the busy bees buzzing. Thoroughly chilled. Except I got sunburn.

I am not fond of going to the hairdressers either but I am in dire need of a haircut.

And I love Pimms too

sobernow - you should tell SimonHoward about your party. We were talking about celebrating the winter solstice in preference to Christmas and he said he didn't know where to do that. Maybe he'd like a summer solstice party.

Chilling at the moment is a very rare thing indeed as I have one child or the other up from around 7.30 am to midnight !!!!

MalmoMum · 20/06/2002 22:10

Sommer solstice a national holiday here in Sweden. Herring, eggs, strawberries, beer and schnapps playing an integral role along with Maypoles.

Had a pedicure today. Not at a beauticians but at a chiropodist and she did a much better job of smoothing the hard skin away. Decided my toe nails look so pretty that nail polish would detract from them.

Just back from a girlie night at the chinese with the NCT. Most relaxing.R

Rhiannon · 20/06/2002 23:43

I missed the God thread and the abuse one, where have I been? R

Mooma · 21/06/2002 06:54

Rhiannon - I know!! You turn your back on Mumsnet for five minutes and they're having deep & meaningful debates without you...(Manic week and hardly any time to surf )

monkey · 21/06/2002 08:54

oxocube - me too. I'm always spoilt-brat disappointed when dh brings me a really expensive box of chocs. I'd be miles happier with a packet of flumps and some jelly teddies. Mind you, they were the cause of my enormous post-natal weight gain

Tinker - ooh an anger thread! Now there's an idea! Somewhere we can go to just rant and rave without feeling guilty about upsetting people! I usually do vengeful things to dh to cheer myself up, like turning the volume up full blast on his hi-fi so that when he turns it on he's deafened by the result! Or fiddling about with his car so that when he turns the ignition the fan comes on, the radio is on full-blast his windscreen wipers are going, etc. Or putting salt in the sugar for when he makes the inevitable brew every 5 minutes...did anyone else love that ad for sanitary towels was it? Where the woman has a go at her boyfriend for suggesting a cup of tea when she was suffering PMT? I thought it was great!

Due to dire result today of England I have sent dh out to do some concreting - so he's out of the way for a couple of hours at least - and I can have a nice soak in the bath, wash my hair, use all my beauty products saved from Christmas and read my book. Then when dd wakes up I'll plonk her down in her sandpit to watch daddy, and then chill some more!
