I am moving house soon and wanted to know what I would be able to view using my sky digibox? I will cancel my sky subscription but still plug in the box, any idea?!

nothing without a sky digital dish. I know, I tried recently! You'll have to buy a freeview box which works through an aerial.

If you still have a dish and decoder you should be able to get the free channels but you may need a free card from BBC to use instead of a Sky Card.

If you take the sky digital box and the dish you should get a similar batch of channels that you would get with a digital tv or freeview box. I think you still need a card and you used to be able to get them from the BBC (free).

Have a look here . If you have dish etc already you may not have to pay the £120 fee but equally you may have difficulty cancelling your current contract.

We have been with sky digital for 4 years so we can cancel our subscription. The house we are moving to has a minidish and we were going to take our digibox with us and plug it in. We also have our sky card which I know they will probably block all the extra channels that you have to pay for but I was wondering if by doing this we would still be able to view the free channels (but with a decent picture!) I didn't want to sound cheeky when I phone them and let them know my intentions!

The valuable bit is the box, which you own. If there is already a minidish at the new house, you don't need to take your dish with you. The card will be useless once you cancel your subscription. You will have two choices at the new house. 1) Get free viewing card from BBC and plub it into your sky box (instead of sky card). You can watch 10 or so channels with great picture for free. 2) Tell sky you are moving and want your subscription moved to new location. And that you are moving your box, but will use existing dish at new location. They will transfer all info. over and you can have sky at new address for same price as at old address and you don't have to pay installation fee.

Just an update. I phoned sky, I was able to cancel my subscription and still use my viewing card to watch the free channels to get a good picture. I had to give 30 days notice to cancel the subscription so even though we moved out on the 17th, I have to continue to pay until the 14th August (rip off!)
